reggae-rock competition

so, how many people here have heard of the band 311? i've been listening to a lot of their stuff lately, and i thought it would be cool to have a competition to see who could make the best song of that style. 311 incorporates elements of funk, ska, reggae, rap and rock into their music(<-----for anyone who HASN'T heard of them). what i want is to see who can do the best imitation of them. anyone who hasn't heard any of their music, i recommend listening to the following songs to get a good idea of what i'm talking about:

Solar Flare
Sweet
Don't Stay Home
Thank Your Lucky Stars

i'm not sure how long to make this competition last, so i'm going to wait and see how many people get interested before i make this official. any questions, just ask via PM or on this thread.

ok, thanks for your interest guys. i think i'll wait a few more days and see if anyone else jumps in, then decide on a deadline.

there really aren't any rules for this contest, just as long as submissions are done in a reggae-rock format. vocals aren't required, but aren't discouraged either. other than that, there's not much else to say.

can't wait to see what comes of it.

P.S. please post a link to your song in this thread when it's complete.

yes you are. i just thought it would be cool if it was 311-inspired. but yes, your own sound is acceptable.
in fact, it's actually encouraged.

alright, it looks like only a couple people are interested, but i think i'll go ahead and get it rolling and maybe some others will join along the way. let's make the end date Christmas, to give time for everyone who wants to participate to do EVERYTHING they can to make their song absolutely perfect. can't wait to hear what you guys got, so let's GO.

P.S. it's been a question in the past as to what genre Reggae should be under since there currently is no option for it. my advice is to put it into the Misc. genre, although Reggae was influenced by ska, so that might work too(i'd advice the former, since ska fans might not like something other than ska in their area.)

Beautiful Disaster by 311 is pretty epic. They're a great band.

Dunno if I'll join though, because I pretty much only do drum & bass/breakbeat, and I'm working on other stuff at the moment :|
