Wow. I'm with you man. I mean, the guys the president and all, and I have nothing against him (I didn't vote for him, but, then again, I haven't voted since I was 20 or so), but still something about that... just was.... I don't even know what to say or how to say it without sounding racist or anything. Just something about it that didn't seem right. It kind of seemed racist in itself, and yet it also seemd kind of like they were just teaching the kids how cool the president was.

I'm more confused about that video, than I was about the Newgrounds April 1st practical joke.

First of all, I don't post anything against site rules.

Second, I'm not even agaisnt America, or against white people. I'm against imperialist policies, and against ignorance. America has done, and produced a lot of good things in the past, but that doesn't mean it should be above any critisism, and it doesn't mean you should gloss over its history. George Washington's view of Democracy, his slaves, and the native american genoside are historical facts.

I really don't see what the problem is with schoolkids singing a song about their new president.

It isn't like the song is particularly exclusive to Obama either; apart from the bit about him being the first black president, the lyrics are vague enough that they could refer to any new president.

Like children have any concept of politics anyway.

George Washington was no saint, but he was a pretty enlightened man for his time. If you want to take the stance that he was supposed to be some kind of a prophet or messiah, like some Americans might feel, then of course he fails to meet these standards horribly. It's the same thing with any historical figure that we look up. Abraham Lincoln, for instance, is known as the man who freed the slaves, but he also made several remarks that would today be considered overtly racist and he was never in favor of blacks getting full citizenship rights.

History can tell us what was a commendable thing to do in the past, but they cannot provide us any direct role models for today.

The majority of his campaign was "Change" and "Hope," so I guess we deserve it. I never really keep up with politics too much, but I remember my friends taking me to one of his rallies, and a lot of what he did was talk about how he's going to be better than Bush, and how shitty Bush was, so I guess people just voted on the "Anti-Bush" platform, I dunno.

But I also think it's hard to find the truth of shit like what Obama is doing, most of the news stations are biased, and spin a story one way or another, and there is so much propaganda both for and against what he is doing, finding true facts and coming up with your own opinion is pretty hard.

I think what is more shocking than a teacher wanting her students to have a respect for their president and nation is the people who say they have studied so far into the human mind that they can create images that work only on a subconscious level. I'm sure there are corporations which have whole divisions devoted to finding ways to mesh the product more efficiently into the human mind and lifestyle, and try to create a dependency on the product.

If you listen to what they are singing about it's not that outrageous. It's not like they're singing "BARACK IS THE GREATEST PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD" they're just talking about how he's an inspiration. And while yes, this is out of place in a school building, it's not as bad as some will make it out to be.
