in case the title is unclear:

Getting my flash game re-developed into a console version?

Examples include Castle Crashers, Alien Homid and N+ all of which were originally made in Flash and have been remade into a more indepth console version.

Just wondering how this works, were they bought by independant companies who re-programmed them in whatever language is used in consoles? Or did the developers re-code them themselves?

Im just wondering how you get the opporrutnity to get yours made into a console ver becomes available. And yes I know the quality must be exceedingly high.

you need to have 2 of these:

* A shitload of money
* An amazing flash prototype
* Expert level knowledge of flash and c++

Good luck with getting even one of those, and even then it's still not easy, and it's expensive, and requires a little bit of luck. You also need to be willing to work more than full time for about 2 years, no exceptions

The makers of Castle Crashers re-programmed it into a console version and then published it. But if you want to have a console version of you're extremely high quality game without having to learn C++ or any of that, then you can enter it in competitions where the main prize is a publishing deal to a major console, such as this one:

CC is not a flash game, you must be thinking of Alien Hominid :)

Well, I was taking the OP's word for it, since he said that CC and Alien Hominid were originally flash games. Oh well.

CC was animated in flash.

Theres a big community of PSP homebrew game makers
If you made a PSP version of your game it would be distributed to many people via homebrew websites if it was good enough and technically it would be on a console.

Its a bit out of nowhere lol plus youd have to have CFW but its just an idea...

I went outside once the graphics were awesome but the gameplay was shit

There's also the Indie Xbox Live Marketplace. Where you could publish your games on the Xbox Live for only 100$ subscription per year.

Yeah.
Most games use art made in normal programs.
For example, some of the Halo CE models were made in 3DS Max.

You havent really done anything consoleworthy
but if you really want you could always try JGE++ for PSP
Also you can win castle crashers source code every now and then
Castle crasher was actually prototyped in flash AS1 ...Kind of ... DAD n ME anyone ?
XNA game deving for XBLA isnt that hard and you dont need to much C++ knowledge really but if you want to make something that people will play :
Make some good flash first
Learn C++ from scratch
5 years later go for it

OOP AS3 || Flash 8,CS3,CS4 || *sigh* || The new forum on the block : FLASH SEED !

O I understand that none of my current stuff is console worthy right now but im looking to start university in the next 2 years and I have a lot of background knowledge with flash animation, actionscript and stuff like that.

Basically just wondering if it will help me out in anyway for the future?

Im currently doing 2 A levels in ICt and Maths which should also help me out? Correct me if im wrong. Just wondering if my knowledge of flash would make things easier for me in the long run and I can now see that game such as Alien hominid and CC were re-programmed and cant be transfered over.

Guess I should turn my attention over to C++ then and finally step away from flash? And to the user that suggested it, I have looked into that xbox Indie games stuff and would love to do it, but my laptop cant run the bloody program! Still Christmas is just round the corner ;)

If your goal is computer programming then just concentrate on c++. It's not exactly difficult.

ICT and Maths is pretty much perfect for a programming degree (if thats the uni thing you're after), could have done with Physics but that depends on what you would specialise in. I assume Maths at A-level would include Mechanics? It did at my old sixth form.

Actually my version of maths is a subcourse called D1 or decision which involves algorithms and functions and stuff like that... any good? :l

Im also doing an A level in buisness(?) and something called extened project qualification where I make an independant project and just write up what i did, for mine im making a flash game and at the end il have h game to show via a USB pen and an odd 3,000 word essay of my journey on making it; apparantly its well sought after.

And to the user above... Guess I better boot up the old C++ then...

That's just 1 module of the A-level. For the whole A-level you'll be doing 6 modules (including the 4 core modules). D1 is of relevance as it's about following algorithms which is somewhat important as you'll come across a lot of them. One of the most important thing though if you want to learn C++ is the ability to teach yourself. Read articles on the internet and just pick stuff up like that as well as sit down with a problem and work out how to tackle the problem.

Oh yeah sorry forgot about the other 5. I have already done my first year so I have completed D1, C1 and C2 and am moving onto D2, C3 and C4 ... so yeah.

And if teaching myself is the best way forward il look into it around summer when the exams are over...

Thanks for your help everyone
