Art Forum changing for the worst?

I've been an Art Forum reg since 06, and I gotta say it's changed for the worst over the years. It's seems that people are taking it much less...

There's a lack of activity threads nowadays (draw an angry potato, draw a teenage mutant turtle)

I'm also an 06'er, and I can kinda see what you mean. The forum seems to go into inactive slumps for a bit, but I do remember the times where there would be COW, CHOW, even EOTW, along with mini activity threads and even one of the site contests at the same time. Perhaps we can do something to bring some life back into this thing? I know I could use the practice.

I was thinking an idea for a collab/activity thread could be "Refrigerator Door," where you draw making it look like crayon or marker (preferably in Corel Painter, or using actual crayons) in a sorta little cutesy style.

Anyways your Kanye had me laughing for a while haha, I still can't seem to get enough of that joke, and it was well placed with the never ending journey thread, kudos!

I gotta' admit, i am finding there to be an extreme lack of creative threads, people seem to be just making their own art threads (god i'm a hipocrit), but i suppose now with the art forum these should die out.

Yes

I've noticed the forums been slowing down for awhile now. I think it's partly due to the Art Portal so there won't be too big of a flow of new artists in here, because they have a "better" place to post their art. And also because there isn't too many regulars anymore, which is something that needs to change.

I think we just need more group projects, or just more threads that get everyone involved. There needs to be a reason for other artsy users to want to come here.

Yeah, it's apparent that some things have really died around here. The art portal has caused a lot of artists to shut down their personal art threads and just post them there. CHOW died months ago, and COW died in the last few weeks.
I'm glad that the Doubles showdown has come back though, at least we have something going on. Also, we've had a fair number of collabs run through here recently, which was pretty good.
But every time a troll steps in and starts spamming pictures, or a noob comes along and starts whining about their stuff, then it turns people off of the art forum, and slowly drives people off.
It's really depressing to see the art forum slowly fall apart like this. Even though I only really got into the art forum at the beginning of 09, I spent all my time on newgrounds in the art forum, casting aside the immaturity of the general forum (besides, we can be immature here too).
It pains me that this is happening, but I'll continue to stay here and fight to keep the art forum alive.

iv not been on here for a while but i consider myself a reg even if you dont, when i first came here it was full of life, now collabs are dying off, cow has ended, and trolls are invading, what we need is a new something of the week to take over for a while, thank god the doubles showdown has started again and we got jkamovies and his constant collabs.
regs need to take more action and make some activity threads or revive some old ones, colour an alien for example was awesome while it was going but died in about two weeks

well said, over holidays the art forum fires up, and i just got bored and lurked through the flash forum, 8 collabs on the first page, why cant we have that, all our collabs are either locked because noobs dont know the rules or they just die out from lack of interest with some exceptions

Well, Ive only been here since late january, but I kind of agree.
There seem to be less constructive and more stupid threads in here. although Im glad weve gotten past that whole the never ending journey-phase.... that was lame!
I do have to add though, that I think we are currently in a lift after the low we had shortly after the introduction of the portal.
There seem to be more community based projects at the moment (ng calender, ng castle collab, grim collab, screw yourself collab, DOUBLES, etcetera....), And I have more than enough opportunity to post my artage...

also, I found it striking that I used to see you as a really cool guy. (back when I first started frequenting the forum, in january) But since your hiatus, you seem way less cool.... This could be due to the fact that I was new around here and the COWs, which you were hosting, were my first way to really get into the community... but it could still be you...

I signed up around the time this forum launched, and it might just be due to the novelty of Newgrounds wearing off over the years, but it seems like people used to have more fun in here. I mean I was a faggot 13-year-old drawing with the mouse and I could still get away with posting pages and pages and pages of crappy art, people even ASKED for it. There seems to be a lot less of that kind of prolificness and community interaction these days, and because there are fewer regs and more users in general it's kind of lost the friendly, personal vibe.

Collabs don't have to be the end-all of activities, dumb activities like Draw A Zombie, Draw A Dragon and Newgrounds Staff Style are ideas where other people think "Hey I can hop onto this", whilst the starter hasn't got to worry about how to get the bloody thing put together.

Next time you're doodling, think whether an activity (not a poxy collab) can come out of it, and post it.

Yeah, sure I'm down for running it if everyone is interested. I wont start it immediately as there are some other things on my plate currently, but I think it would be great to do. I'd probably set it up like the Castle Collab.
