I went and spent $95 Canadian on mine, which is all Skype Certified etc... & It's a Logitech, works great though!

The best mics you can get are XLR, but then that would mean getting a computer interface to use it and would basically be useless unless you were doing audio production. USB mics are the best otherwise. I recommend Plantronics. Even though they're meant for gaming, they are great headsets.
Other than that, I forgot the brand I have. It's just a basic USB stand-up computer mic. Great quality though. Definitely go USB.

why waste your time with buying a standalone mic when you can get a game with one? I use a Singstar mic, and it works.
