First and formost. Allow me to say that my computer is by far the best on market.

Now I seem to be having some trouble with my machine. I've tried a few things and personally I've put it down to either RAM or my Graphics card.

The Problem: Basically, my computer is an a-hole when it comes to running games. It tends to just randomly freeze during the middle of a game. First the sound cuts out then like 30secs later, BAM! It freezes. It's not like I'm running any brand spankin' new games or anything. It'll freeze in Empire Earth for christ sakes.

Solutions: Well, firstly I tried leaving one side of my case off thinking that my system was overheating... It didn't work. I then found out i had 256mb of RAM so I upgraded to 1gb and it still didn't help.

So I'm asking you, Newgrounds, any ideas as to what could make my PC freeze?

TL;DR My PC freezes randomly in-game

Ok well first off a computer that starts with 256 MB ram isn't the best on the market (not even close)

What OS are you running?

and if it's vista is it 32 bit or 64 bit

Windows XP. I was going to look into Overclocking but a friend of mine said it wasn't worth the trouble.

Less than 4GB of ram nowadays isn't good, 256MB was good in 2000.

Upgrade your RAM, at least half is being used by XP alone.

Hmm... Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Would 2gb be enough or should I shell out and go all the way to 4gb?

Lol poor

Most games nowadays rely heavily on graphics cards and not ram. Tell us about your graphics card.

This is filler text.

Post specs. 256mb of RAM? Nowhere near the best on the market. Perhaps a decade ago.

lol.

Check out what the minimum system requirement for the game you're trying to play are, then compare to your pc's specs.

We'll see...

If it's your RAM or Graphics, your computer is NOTby far the best on the market. It would be flawless.

The Problem: Basically, my computer is an a-hole when it comes to running games. It tends to just randomly freeze during the middle of a game. First the sound cuts out then like 30secs later, BAM! 256mb? What? Were you born with a dick in your brain (fucked in the head)? My computer is Pretty Damn good, that's like 1/8th of my ram. Oh? upgraded to 1gb, eh? 1/2 of that is used by windows XP, the rest, you use. If you go over the allowed RAM, everything freezes.

So I'm asking you, Newgrounds, any ideas as to what could make my PC freeze?

You could just overclock your PC. No need to go through that much trouble. There's a program you can download. You can search google for it.

My suggestion: just get a new computer. You can only put so much RAM into a computer, and I haven't found a way to replace my graphics card yet, so I wouldn't go through the trouble if you don't know what you're doing. I suggest going to this site. It allows you to pick a game from a list and it checks if you computer has the minimum requirements to run it.

With the specs you have, an old Sempron just doesn't cut it anymore. Not to mention it runs at 400 million degrees kelvin.

You could try spraying out all your fans and the heatsink on the CPU with a can of compressed air, and then leave the case open and point a nice big room fan in there to help keep it cool.

Another note on Windows XP is that it only reads up to about 2GB or RAM (maybe 3) accurately, and your mother board probably doesn't support much more than that anyways.

The best suggestion is just to build yourself a new computer. You can get a nice machine that'll run most modern games for $500 start to finish.
