Xiao Xiao is simply a background on 1 layer and then on the 2nd 3rd 4th layer there are sticks done by the line tool with a symbol for a head. Every frame you erase, except for the heads, and redraw the body using onion skin. After weeks you'll have a kick ass xiao xiao movie.

Well, I know one of the guys who worked on Xaio Xaio, he said that the blurry motion trail thingy was an add on that he got for shockwave. I have no clue what that means but thats what he said. He did the Boss fight in Xaio Xaio where its a guy in that warehouse with the rockandrooll solo playing the whole time :)

onion skin shows the last frame (or frames) that were drawn; sort of like how a cartoonist compares one cel to another cel to make a fluid animation.

i make my stick movies as I like them done with all objects except the body are control G'd and then i find the exact color and size of my lines and i make them. so i can curve. Also i hate when people make big heads and pencil thin sticks. make em purpostionit.

Make each of the body parts separate symbols. Mr. Zhu uses 2-3 torso parts for bending. Basically just rotate each body part for each frame, moving the axis to one side or the other. For the 3d look, like doing a roundhouse or something, copy the symbol that's going 3d and make it a little shorter each frame until it gets past the apex, then go back to normal length at the same rate.

thanks for the insight. The thing is i believe im good at flash but that animation simple kiks ass.
I was hoping to hear the frame by frame thing as if any of you have tried to motion tween a line to an arc, all it does is move without the arc or so it does with me, i tried shape tweening and that didnt do anything.
as i write this i go back to experiment. look at rik HHH (me) to see the style of animation i want to get away from ( i did those animations in about a day each)

Just make the fps about 24 and animate like you normally would, except using ovverated sticks.
it feels redundant to eat a bacon&sausage ham sandwich... but it's soooooo good.

I think he use's a flip book before he animates it to get the perfect motion then he can start in neat when he comes to animate it. That's what I do and it works for me.
