Women having equal rights as men, people of all races having equal rights, every human being born free, anyone having a chance to be elected a leader, freedom of and from religion. Those are rights we have now and that at some point in history, people didn't even question not having.

So try and imagine what kinds of freedoms we'd have in 500 years that we don't even THINK we'll have today. What rights will people have that we don't but we don't even consider?

Name anything.

Anything that could cause a breakdown of society.

As we perceive today. In say 500 years, society as we know it today might not be the same, and thus what we think would make society collapse today won't in the future.

I believe in 500 years we'll probably have a totally secular government so that things like Prop 8 won't pass.

More respect in schools (Teacher to student wise) I choose that because in my school, We have to have respect for the teacher, but they disrespect us. That's bullshit.

My guess is that some of the old moral taboos will fade pretty soon.
Medical ethics are gravely changing (euthanasia/ abortion eg) and now there are still some restrictions on cloning and genetic manipulation, but I think they will fade soon. I expect that later even restriction on experimentation on several beings, like infants/foetuses and people will be allowed.

On a second note, also sexual taboos will be broken: promiscuity/polygamy/bestiality/incest and even things like necrophilia and paedophilia I expect to become more common and allowed. It will be a victory of private freedom.

I disagree on some level. I do agree with promiscuity and promiscuity, but bestiality, necrophilia and pedophilia won't happen because of the great little c-word: Consent. Now, say in the future there exists such technology to prove me otherwise, then there you go. But that until then, it's not going to happen.

Different issue with incest. Incest is bad because you don't spend the genes around and thus genetic disorders can become more common.

we had that right back in the 1800s up until the civil war. I think we should have that right again.

500 years? The only rights we'll have are the ones our extra-terrestrial "friends" allow us to have.

Injured Workers rights were taken away in the 1920's by an insurance company (WCB), it's high time we got them back.

Freedom from idiocy?

I could sriously imagie people failing a "Don't press the big red button that says do not press because it would destroy the earth" in 500 years time.

Freedom from those kinds of people would be nice.

Well, I'd hope that we actually had rights- not just say we do. I don't have the right to pursue happiness, and as a kid nobody has any rights. It seems childish, but think of when you were a kid- false imprisonment, assault and battery, forced labor- It's like being a zerk.

I think those freedoms will disappear when the inevitable decline of Western Civilisation happens and the rise of illberal cultures, like the Chinese.

That being said, I used to be for equal rights but have become to reject most aspects of that, especially in religious matters and I prefer political monism. That is the belief in one way and a rejection of pluralism and diversity.
