You step outside the "mainstream" comfort zone, away from the "casuals" (that's non-gamers to the rest of us) and ultra-anal tournament "hardcore" scene, and try some games that are completely foreign to you in their concept. Maybe you'll like them, maybe you won't, but you'll at least have tried; you'll have the experience, and that's what matters.

Well, I'd say you aren't true gamer until you've played most of the consoles. I currently have an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, Gamecube, Wii, NDS, Gameboy (big fat original gray), Sega Game Gear, PS1... and a PC full of emulated stuff. I consider old classics the foundation of gamers. I still play Atari and NES all the time.

Just buying an XBox 360 or a PS3 and having Madden 2010 and thinking you're a gamer?... well you can suck on my balls. Cuz I can't afford those systems. :-)

Oh, so there's a condition to being a gamer now? Really, what is this thread trying to prove? No, I don't have every console. No, I haven't played/beaten INSERT RANDOM GAME on RANDOM USER'S list of games. Being a gamer isn't about what you've done, its about what you do: play video games. Like it or not, that's the only condition required to be a "true" gamer, even if that means your grandma makes the cut as well.

If being a "true" gamer is a status symbol to you, then you need a reality check.

Until you start using the word 'game' as a verb.

Until you own at least 4 different consoles.

Until you have enjoyed both Team ICO games.
