I've been looking at a lot of tutorials but I just can't figure out how to do #d like in a first person shooter. I think it's the actionscript that I have wrong, but I'm not sure, so I'd really like some help on how to do 3D.

Flash is created for 2d usage not for 3d usage. You can steel make simple 3d border animations, but thats about as far as you get. If you want view this flash movie:

You will notice that the characters from the movie wish to go to Hell. They find some way in the internet to summon a 3d elevator to hell. Pay attention to the elevator. Its made with 2d graphic to look like its 3d not exactly original ,but its cool.

either go with the 2.5D effect described above or search the web for one of the 3D engines.
papervision3D is one of them.

Thanks, and I've seen the movie. It's hilarious. I just thought you could. Guess I was wrong. It's just in the 3d section of the Tutorial Collab 08 it has sprites around you like in a first person shooter.

3D IS possible with Flash. It just isn't very easy.

Some 3D engines are Sandy 3D, Papervision, Away3D and Alternative.

Check out some of their stuff:

As mentioned in posts succeeding the one quoted, 3D is possible in flash. To do this, an engine must be scripted.

Think about it, there's tons of Opcodes in ActionScript, which means nearly anything is possible.

If you want to make a first person shooter game in flash, it won't require animating, just a fuckload of scripting/engine creating. Try using the 2.5d method as shown in the Eddsworld flash, but other than that...

THERE IS NO MORE TO SAY.

Well Flash isn't meant for 3D. BUT you can cheat it here 2 ways of HOW you can cheat flash into it.

1/
Create a 3D animation in a different Program such as 3D Max, Blender ect render it out as a Mov. or AVI or what ever then Import it into Flash (play around with the Import settings and try and make the file as small as you can.

This can be seen in my flash MusicBot and Music is an Epic thing

2/
Do exactly the same as above but when you import it into flash Trace over the 3D model frame by frame.

But for training reason its fun to try both ;)

First of all, for some of you, please know what you're talking about before making blanket statements like "Flash doesn't do 3D."

I make my living making 3D things in flash, like augmented reality. Here's my suggestion:

Use Papervision3D, since the internal, simple 3D in Flash CS4 is based on it, and because its totally free to use for commercial projects. Using a different, proprietary engine, then adding in-game advertising could land you in court, unless you want to pay the several thousand dollar licensing fee.

Second download the free Flex SDK, learn it, and make the program with your favorite text editor and the command prompt. The Flash IDE was originally created for keyframe animations and doesn't translate well to traditional software development, which is best for 3D work in ActionScript or any other language.

@blubfaceproduction, when you look at this, it will be extremely daunting at first. Have heart, take the time to learn it, and find yourself able to do more than 99% of the people on these forums. Everything else you do in ActionScript after this project will be easy.

If you're new to 3D in Flash, I'd suggest giving FIVe3D a shot. It's missing bells and whistles, but it's still probably my favorite engine.

I've got a few tutorials on my site, or you can just google it.

It all depends on the extent of your shooter. 95% of the people who have posted in this thread seem to actually know less than what you're talking about and haven't looked what the first post even said. Just look at this, I don't think it was made with ANY program other than Flash: Stalin98's engine.

Papervision 3D sucks. It's alot more powerful to write your own on Flash 10 using drawTriangles

</Useless information>

swift 3D is shitty shareware, do the 3D yourself , if you have AS3 then that shouldnt be a problem and performance wont pale

OOP AS3 || Flash 8,CS3,CS4 || *sigh* || The new forum on the block : FLASH SEED !

alternativa seems pretty good, and it supports shaders
