The thing is that you can not do something about the latter option.

I've been a reg on the audio forum for a year and a half, checking the forums almost every day, and while I don't post that often, I still read the vast majority of the posts that go through this forum. While yes, the forum can at times seem unkempt, I think that in no way is it in a state of alarm or disarray. I've always loved the mix of intelligent threads and complete bullshit in this forum: every day I can expect to see some new post about a fresh music mixing technique or a new contest that someone's throwing, and at the same time see 2 or 3 threads bitching about zerobombing and/or music not getting approved. But that mix of crap and value is what I love about this place. I enjoy a good talk about a new VST for FL as much as the next guy, but really, what fun would the forum be without some idiotic discussion coming in and breaking up the seriousness? If mods were patrolling and locking constantly, those bits of nonsense that we get to have here would almost never occur, and really, what would be the fun of having this community then? It made me glad to read that rucklo and the other mods actively allow some unnecessary threads to live, because it is in the sheer ridiculousness of many of those threads that the real character and fun of the people here is revealed.

I would just consider before you bash on the mods, that maybe a bit of laxity adds some zest to a sometimes inactive forum.

ill just chime in saying i completely agree with this post.

if the AF is moderated with too hard of a hand then it will just get boring.
i really dont see a problem with the moderation. if there are threads that are in the wrong place most regs go in and direct the OP in the right direction or give him sound advice.

if the topic gets bumped then oh well.
there are other pages on the forum besides the most recent ones.. just surf a little more.

plus some of the useless threads are kinda funny and the AF is the only thread i frequently go to so the lulz keep me coming back.

Plus something that most people dont understand is that if someone has replied with a valid solution in a thread and the Q has been A'd there is no reason to reply to it BUT sometimes the extra replies spark more conversation. If the system was made in concrete by the mods by locking threads then we wouldnt be able to talk so much here which results in limited communication.

SUM UP
the AF is fine.. i still enjoy it and even if you think the AF isnt fine im glad you think so because no matter how fun or awesome something is there is always room for improvment and ideas spark troubleshooting and troubleshooting shoots problems in the face with a shotgun.

This thread is basically an outcry for someone, in the hope that they will get modded. In all honesty, we don't need any new moderators. The forums are looking just as normal as they always do.

We all know Mich makes up 70% of the pointless posts anyway.

I over-exaggerated my point. I was just ticked because it seems that every time I load up the forum I come across a new pile of shit.

The moderation here works fine. The only reason I'm suggesting more is because I believe things just need to be dealt with a little bit faster than they currently do.

like i mentioned to DSM via PM, we have two active euro-mods and only one US (canada, whatever. YOU ALL LOOK THE SAME TO ME OVER THERE) which of course may be part of why some might experience that noone is around.
however, the forum do get a daily served by one or more of us active mods. if it do get to a point where more mods is needed, we definitley will try to make that happen.
i usually get a few hints, like the workload when getting online is ridiculous, my PMinbox is filled up with angry PM's from regulars etc.

well not really that extreme, but i've gotten hints like that when i've been inactive, before SBB+snayk+Rig was modded etc.

i still do stand by my opinion that there really isn't need for more bbs-mods right now, but i'm definitley not against more, do note that.

anyway, i hope everyone knows that if there's an OMFGSPAMMMM situation arising and none of us audioreg-mods is around, any other mod will be able to help cleaning up such a mess. to see who's currently online, just click the BBS button, and scroll down.

Rucklo - Irrelevant WIP A Drum n Bass tune in progress. Check out what it's like this far! :)

I'd also like to point something out. Have a look at these threads:

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1106 698
http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1106 138
http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1105 706

Notice how the first reply in each of them points the OP in the right direction? Now, I see this happen in 80% of the spam/newbie threads posted on the forums. A naive newbie will post a useless thread and almost surely, a reg' will come and set the user straight. Now, the other 20% of threads end up getting derailed and flame wars start breaking out all over the place. At this point, a mod will come and lock the thread but honestly, how much do you see this happen? Personally, not a lot (but then again, I don't lurk much).

In my opinion, the combination of mods and responsible regs' is enough to keep this place under control. Sure, the forum isn't exactly organized because of the spammy threads popping up all the time but most of you take it on yourselves to point the new users that post these threads in the right direction when they wander off track a little. If this place ever becomes more active, maybe then we might need a 'couple more mods but until that day comes, we're doing just fine and that's thanks to the responsibility of the community that's already here!

How that thread looks now is not how it looked before it was locked. There were multiple spam posts that were deleted.

I've never understood why Forum Regs always get angry at threads that dont agree with the rules even at the slightest. Like who cares?

its not harming anyone, so whats the big problem?

If someone made a thread in the AF about something other than music production, like "When you started producing" i bet it would be locked saying its against the rules.

Aren't rules for stopping bad things from happening? Nothing bad is happening at all, there are no threads filled with nude pics, no threads insulting other artists, nothing bad really.

When the question is asked, answer the question and THEN say, "Check the FL help thread" Dont just say, "GO CHECK THE FL THREAD! READ NEXT TIME YOU IMBECILE!"

I probably dont have many Forum Reg fans on here, just cuz im not too involved, and when i have input, its just criticizing u guys anyway, but srsly.

Be nice.

Is it that hard?

Its not a society here, its just a fun place, we dont need people enforcing the rules 24/7.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. I'm not angry about the threads. The threads aren't that big of a problem. It's what goes on in those threads that gets somewhat annoying.

Take for example this recent thread asking about the top 30. He asked a simple question and I answered it. After he said thanks, there really wasn't any more room for discussion and the thread probably could have been closed. However, someone decided to come along and troll the OP, which I see you saw as well. Things like this can be avoided action is taken quicker.

Dude you say that like if somebody posted hardcore necrophiliac porn, sure the problem was solved in the second reply but the forum isn't necessarily an answering service, what's the problem with a bit of discussion related to the topic?

I understand that there wasn't anything more to be discussed, but what does it matter if something was discussed.

Like who cares if the topic was still alive, its not like its hindering you from using the forum in anyway. It will die eventually, and if it becomes our of hand, then yes close it.

Im not talking about you, im talking about every forum. Whats the need for constant watch of rule breaking other than the posting vulgar images and text. Its not like the forum will break down due to some off topic threads..
