Yeah. After all that time, whining about the problems in it, I finally left the band.
I had no respect, say or the right to write songs.
My position as a keyboardist was a joke. All I had to do was accompany the Emo Singer while she sung the intros or add some eerie sounds like that joke of a keyboardist from Slipknot.
Anyways, did I do the right thing? If so, where do I go next?

dude, dont worry about it. i got kicked out of a band not to long ago (they were into death metal and i was in to thrash)
just try to get a new band going. there are always pleanty of musicians out there

You play a fucking keyboard. I'm not sure on how many keyboardists there are, but I assume you could find another band quite quickly.

I'd say you did the right thing. I mean if they can't let you do any of the things that you're entitled to do as a band member, then fuck them. I would say just look out for any other bands that may be looking for a keyboardist, you may be able to join.
But I think you should play the keytar instead of the keyboard.

I play the Bass, mainly. But I also play that and guitar.

You could go solo and to my knowledge( cus i have all thier albums and have gone to 5 concerts) there isnt a keyboardist in slipknot there is a dj but without him the songs are a bit empty just listen to all the wierd effects in the songs . thats what makes them stand out more. i also know piano . i started playing the ukelele for no apparent reason it was piss easy compared to the complexity of a piano so i mastered it in no time then i learned how to play an acoustic guitar which was slightly harder but still quite easy with my prior knowledge.
basically what im saying is playing keyboard or piano makes other instruments nothing so youve got a lot of skill that a lot of people would want . master every instrument known to man and then some
you dont need those pricks anyway if your smart enough to be a NG BBS user then your smart enough to be the next Corey Taylor ! or linel richie not much difference...

Apart from playing some covers at a wedding with my friends, I've never had a band. Most attempts have resulted in people not caring for riffs or ideas and then saying 'LETS COVER VAN HALEEEEEEEEN!!!"
Hopefully I'll find some similar minded folk at university who are fans of progressive based material and musicianship.

Keyboardists are usually lead singers or at least backing vocals I thing you did the right thing, but you should form another band. I had that problem to, I was the keyboardist, guitarist (not lead) and vocal (not lead neither) of the band and I didn't have the rights to sing my own written songs. instead of that they prefered to do shitty Metallica covers, which pissed me off. The guitarist didn't want a damn song without solo it sucked

that's cool too. Do it, OP, start your own band, and be the frontman. Everyone thinks that all bands need to have mainly vocals and guitar, with drum backing it and a little bit of unhearable bass. They think a keyboard is just for 'fun effects'. I think there should be more synth driven bands.
