Well the only metal bands that I can think of that I listen to a lot would be lamb of god, and job for a cowboy. Listen to Omerta or suffering bastards by lamb of god, both are fantastic. I've heard that Nile is a pretty cool band, but I haven't quite listened to them a lot.

You have to remember it was the 70's. Jimi Hendrix played what we would just consider classic rock. But, back in the day, Hendrix was one of the premier guitarists, much like Malmsteen or Vai. What he played was some of the heaviest stuff of that era.

Thus, Hendrix = metal
