So me and a friend got stoned last night and this was the product of it.

When you look up into space what you are seeing is the light that was produced millions of years ago. You are essentially looking at what the universe looked like when earth was in it's infancy.

So, technically, if we could find a way to travel faster than the speed of light, and a telescope powerful enough to see billions of light years away, we could fly to a place in the universe, take a look at the earth, and see Jesus (or not) doing his miracles.

Or we might see dinosaurs if we overshot it.

We need to get our top scientists on this.

Top scientists.

This should have been repeated after every paragraph you typed, to remind you what brilliance this is.

To do this, you would need to travel faster then the speed of light which is impossible.

Prepare for unforeseen consequences.

Hahahaha! Before I even read this I had a feeling there was going to be weed involved!

Um, you'd have to be able to hear him as well to prove that he's Jesus (not just some random dude you're spying on) and that he actually said all the shit in the bible and all that. You can't really do that with a telescope.

Or we might see dinosaurs if we overshot it.

If you saw dinosaurs, it would kinda screw over large parts of the bible about the world being made in 7 days and so on. Which would be awesome. :D

So you'd go approximately 2000 lys away, take an extremely high-powered telescope, and then look at the Earth to see if Jesus did what He did or not?

Sorry, but light is the upper boundery of velocity. If you travel at the speed of light, it would feel like only a couple years for you to go 2000 lys, because of relativity, but 2000 years still would have passed, so if you were to look at the Earth, you'd just see it as it looks in the year 2013.

Sorry.

Wouldn't you have to travel faster then the speed of light? I mean, if you left earth to another galaxy at the speed of light, wouldn't earth just be the same as when you left?

I had only to wish that there be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they would greet me with cries of hate.

If we assume that travelling faster than light is impossible than we must find a different way. Essentially bending space (as you would for example a sponge) creates a short passage from either ends of the space that was squished. Hence if we found a device capable of such wonders we could potentially go back in time and see for ourselves the magnificence of the past.

Also a device that picks up every single ray of light and renders a complete image from the rays would also be necessary to see a single person.
Also: Atheists should either: a) Stop trolling the Bible. b) Stop getting trolled by the Bible.

Science already knows about this.

If you could fold space time you could create a worm hole.... if you could fold a point from the past to the present, you could use the worm hole to view the past, or possibly even time travel.

Or something... I don't know all the details... I'm no scientist.

This is so old. I wrote a story about an icy satellite like Pluto that reflected light perfectly back at the Earth, allowing people to see it as it was several years ago.
