I thought it was BODMAS.

PENDAS sounds like BODMAS's Spanish cousin.

That explains it. But, I still blame YOU for your stupidity. PEMDAS is 4th grade stuff, you dummy.

I code in AS2, in case I forgot to mention it.

Take 4 and multiply it by 4 and then add 4 then divide it by 4.
4 X 4 + 4 / 4 = 5
Crazy, ain't it?
Congratulations, i learnt that in year 4. You just figured out that there are five 4's in 20.

I always knew.
I just never thought about it with a calculator.

I thought order of operations always applied to math equations using more than one operation.
5+5-5x5 = 25 Not using order of operations
5+5-5x5 = -15 Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction (PEMDAS)

Even without parenthesis order of operation should still apply. P = parenthesis. No parenthesis so Multiply first, then add, then subtract last.

Out of curiosity, even if Mitdylan was right, what is so damn interesting about it in the first place? OK, so it [doesn't =P] equal 5, so what?

4x4+4/4=5???
no, you do this;
(4x4)+(4/4)
simplify too this;
16+1
so the answer is 17

not 5

You're all a bunch of pussies. We just learned it by heart, without stupid acronyms. It helps develop mental muscles.

The OP, you made a huge fail.

If words were wisdom, I'd be talking even more.

God Why so many acronyms!?
Please = Parentheses
Excuse = Exponents
My = Mulitplycation
Dear = Division
Aunt = Add
Sally = Subtract

But My Dear Aunt Sally goes whichever way it goes
( eg.) 5*9-8+12/4superscript6

So 4 is to the 6th power

because some people might not know

First the exponents, the end number changes to 1024 so then 5*9 is 45
and 12/1024 is 0.01171875 then proceed witht the problem, 45-8 is 37 and
37+0.01171875 is 37.01171875
So IT'S FUCKING PEMDAS!

depending on what you add to it...
4x4 + 4/4= 5
(4x4) + (4/4) = 1

if you thinkabout it.... it = 17
and if you right it out it =17
if u use bedmas it = 17
there are a lot of different answers to this one....

a=b
a^2 = ab
a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
a+b = b
2b = b
2 = 1

I fucked maths.

And divided by 0.
