I just don't understand what it is about becoming a moderator, particularly a forum mod, that fucks everything up. All of a sudden, with a simple change of aura, a simple .jpg, and the ability to moderate something, people change for the worse.
Sure, it might change yourself in the form of the posts that you make - you're allowed into a different circle of friends, so to speak and as a result, their influence might be a little more overwhelming.
The users who would normally never even be interested in a user before he/she was modded, would surround them, commenting on their blogs and thread posts for selfish reasons to become a moderator themselves. But, what about the old users who would comment on their blogs even before they became a moderator, and contributing to posts not because their aura was gold, but because they had something helpful to say. Now these users will also get mixed in with the selfish, which devalues what they are and will ultimately be labeled the same.
Fanboys are an issue, I'll grant you that. Sometimes I do wish they would stop crawling up my arse, since it's only a gold aura, which is the thing that they want, but can't have, as opposed to the person behind the aura, who from my point of view hasn't changed at all. Sure, I've got more rights on Newgrounds, but a shitload more responsibility as well.
As for comments on my Blogs, I like having a few more people around, even the twats who whinge about me banning them on there. I think that more people posted on my blog due to my presence at the London meet, as opposed to me becoming modded, truth be told.
The newly modded members change for the worse as well, becoming more distant with other users they once chatted with. They also change in attitude, actingthe role of what they see a mod should act.
I know that I haven't turned my back on my friends in the Wi/Ht or the C&C since I was modded - I still love chatting with people in there and I'd say it was more of a door opener, than a door closer.
They don't associate much with normal users, and why should they? After all, normal users just want to talk to them to get a bigger chance at becoming a mod.
I still associate with normal users, or "The little people", as we affectionately refer to them as. They are just as important to the running of Newgrounds as we are - without them making mistakes that require our moderation, we wouldn't have jobs... and therefore, no golden aura...
