You're right, but how can you sort the people who are ass-kissers from people who you'd like to talk to, it would be impossible.
Can you honestly not tell the difference? There's a pretty obvious line between someone who wants to talk to you for who you are and someone who wants to get what you have. It really doesn't take long to decide, even over the internet.
Honestly, it is hard for me to tell from those who are meaning the best, and those who ass-kiss.
There is no clear definition as to the difference between the two, so how can you always point out who ass-kisses and who just wants to talk every single time?
It's like in order to become a mod, you must separate yourself from the rest of the Newgrounds population. If mods have questions, they never ask in the General BBS, because that would make them seem less powerful and users would attempt to take advantage of it.
No no no no no. My whole point was that there are mods (IMO) who've done nothing of the sort, and still managed to do the job as is expected of them (read: FUNK, Jade, Rig, Sanjay, Rucklo, Renaenae, hell even Poozy isn't so hard to know as a person on here).
Remember this random box thing? That was a direct result of Poozy asking for help with something he couldn't find out on his own. It was in plain view of anyone (although the thread was deleted, but I don't think that had anything to do with him wanting to appear less 'capable' or anything; more that the thread was pointless once done with).
I know what you're trying to say, but I mean the transition period from regular to moderator seems to have some certain things that become lost in between. I've only seen FUNK, Jade, Rucklo, and Renaenae, when they were mods, so I don't know who they were like before becoming as such. Sanjay, and Rig, I've only seen them as regulars when they were demodded, which their attitudes are the same, with the exception of missing their mod state.
Instead, they would use the mod forum which even then is separated into two different places, review, art, audio in one forum and Forum moderators in another one.
For obvious reasons, I wouldn't know about that. How do you know?
A while back, the DD were stupid enough to post screen shots on their forum when they hacked Dry-Ice's account, and a friend combined them into one single folder and sent it to me. They revealed a couple forums that I didn't know of prior. I will not disclaim the existence of the 10,000 posters lounge.
I wish it were so simple as good and bad, but the truth is each one changes to what they think the role of moderator is, and some get this role from preceding mods. How can you handpick users to become mods without them changing personalities? You put them in this new environment altogether, where they are secluded from the users, not physically, but mentally.
The underlying point is that it IS possible to be yourself AND be a good mod at the same time, as some have demonstrated time and time again. If only it were a more popular habit. Yes, it's easy to be blinded by the aura, but like I said, those who aren't tend to be better mods than those who think their behaviour must be standardised somehow now that they're a mod.
So many mods do it right, that I didn't really take notice if their personality changed. Yet, for the key few who act so differently, it's so obvious that a little part inside me dies.
