They just continue to make 9/11 jokes and insult religious officials until they risk getting banned from some country. Now I know everyone here has laughed at an offensive joke one time or another, but they're starting to overdo it.

I've not watched so many recent episodes admittedly, perhaps partially for this reason about the show's so-called political humour. The couple I've seen are definitely forgettable, even a little embarassing in some areas, depending on what's being "discussed". I've also seen a few people online who confess to sharing some of MacFarlane's ideas, but they sure wish he would just shut up sometimes in Family Guy. I'm addressing the creator directly, because he is practically Brian insome of the ones I've seen. Maybe it's because there was an election last year, I don't know. It's common to see creators go crazy with their productions if they might have some chance of changing something they're unhappy with, of course.

But yeah, most of that area just isn't funny in the show. A lot of people blame it on how fan power revived to some degree, which could be seen as giving the team a get out of jail free card when it comes to this stuff.

But anyway, back to the actual discussion:

At 9/9/09 04:31 PM, Fire wrote: "Oh but children might stumble across it while parents arent around." Oh well thats your problem. Its called a V-chip, use it.

I actually hadn't heard of this before today so I had to some very brief reading around first (via Wikipedia, because you know). I came across this report, which also has something in it that strikes as slightly odd:

"According to a 2003 study, parents' low level of V-chip use is explained in part by parents' unawareness of the device and the "multi-step and often confusing process" necessary to use it. Only 27 percent of parents in the study group could figure out how to program the V-Chip, and many parents "who might otherwise have used the V-Chip were frustrated by an inability to get it to work properly." A March 2007 Zogby poll indicates, among other things, that 88 percent of respondents did not use a V-chip or cable box parental controls in the previous week, leading the Parents Television Council to call the television industry's V-chip education campaign "a failure.""

The wording in that sort of implies that the Parents Television Council cited lots of people not using the thing made the campaign a failure. I don't know, that's how I've read it, but surely it's not a complete failure if there's a chance that someone has registered it, and just chosen not to use it. Again, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure that even if you wanted to use it and were unfamiliar with how it worked, you could get some material on it, or even assistance in getting it set up. I'm maintaining that it's still their own responsibility for that. If it's a case of it being not being recognised, I'm thinking that if someone brought up the issue, they could be politely pushed in the direction of it.

Keep in mind I have no idea how big the study groups are, and I can't seem to access one of the sources. Needless to say, I don't care enough to try and find out now really.

And I don't really know how the thing works since, like I said, I'd never heard of it before today. At least the motive behind seems to be saying it's the responsibility of the adults in the household overall if they wish to "protect their children", which seems like a good start to me.

Give me a beep if I've missed anything vital anyone :)

FCC Safe Harbor actually starts at 10pm. At least that's what it is for radio.

Fudge Censorship, but seriously these parents should be watching their kid if they don't want them to see it, there's no such thing as decency or indecency

Fuck them... Family guy isn't the best show on the air but it is clearly for adults. If parents don't like their kids watching it, don't fucking let them watch it...

As much as Family Guy annoys me with its shitty stories and lazy animation, these people annoy me WAY more. What makes them think they have the right to police what airs on television, and they're fucking bullies too. 90% of the complaints filed to the FCC are from this horrid group.

In closing, fuck 'em

only thing i'm wondering is, how is the FCC going to respond to this?

are they going to make Fox cut the most Offensive parts out of the Episode?
are they going to Axe the episode entirely?

are the FCC going to review the Episode themselves again?
and will they deem it inappropriate?
or will they just give a press release saying they stand by the ratings they gave?
