why is the user search gone?

im not talking about the BBS text search, im talking about the User Profile search which can be found on the same page as the Top 50 Users list. i could care less if they disabled the BBS searches right now. thanks for the help but we're thinking of two different things.

im guessing thats why, but i wish jim or whoever is messing with it would have at least said something about it. if he did, im sorry, but i totally missed it.

i may be one of the only people to use it, but damnit it sucks to not have that thing available. id check up on profiles through the BBS, but a good portion of the ng community doesnt even post so its near impossible. luckily, this time the person i was looking for actually does do a little posting, but otherwise id be screwed.

the user search has been out for quite some time. right when i was using the search to see if any one liked the same type of bands that i do. hopefully it is just a temporary problem.

You're not the only one who uses it, you know (referring to another post further down). Me and other list maintainers rely upon it a lot.

But it was gone for over half a year... and we got to have it back for a few months. Whether this is temporary or permanent, it was a big drain on NG's database.

If it came down to being able to use the profile search but NG being laggy as shit and negatively affected... or NOT being able to use it and NG getting a chance to recover from the stuff that's gone on lately... which would you choose?

BBS text searching, user profile searching... a few other things... the NG mod page was down for a few days. There's a lot of stuff going on. Just relax for a few weeks. If it's still down then, maybe it'd be time to ask liljim if he has plans to bring it up again. But don't bother him now, stuff's insane.
