It really depends on the type of anime.

Let's take Inuyasha for example; that show is awesome because it has all the right elements: fighting, hot girls, and humor. It also has excessive violence, which makes it really only suitable for teens and adults.

Now lets try Naruto: Its gay because it has fighting, hot girls, humor. But it doesn't have violence because it was made for 8 year olds.

Overall: Excessive violence = good anime
