One more thing if i may. Just because Canada has no enimies, doesnt mean they wont be attacked. That could just be another reason a terrorist would attack, knowing that canada has a smal military. Terrorist are known for their attack agianst the weak, such as women and children. A small boy blown up in a car bomb is said to be an enemy of terrorist? Or is he/she just an easier target. A group of terrorist could attack Canada to show that they dont fuck around. If this makes any sense........... :-/

An attack on Canada would be an indirect attack at the United States-- I think I mentioned that a few pages back.

Irony? Somebody say Irony? You want to hear Irony?

Isn't it? If Osama Bin Laden based his opninion on America thinking that all Americans were like Michael Moore, he'd love you. Also, this means you dont have many [Read: Any] allies, because everything thinks you're a load of Bible-Bashing Conservative Rednecks.

But Osama Bin Laden doesn't, because he isn't a moron, only a moron would base thier opinion of a country on one person, no moron could pull of something like 9/11. And Bumcheek, we still have all the Allies we had before the war, in fact we have more, the leaders of the world aren't stupid enough to hold a grudge against a country because they did one thing they didn't want them to, much less when thier intentions weren't so pure to begin with.

Your right to an extent, but many times people do look at only one person to get a rough aproximation of another country. Say, when the president visits, and throws up on your leader. Bad impression, no? Or how about, during HS, you get that one international student for a year. Everyone thinks that the one kid is fairly representational of his country.

Firstly, I don't think we have more allies than before, and while we didn't actively lose any allies, our relations with many of them are severely shaken. You can't say the Iraq war was a goodwill gesture to the rest of the world =P

That is true, but I never said it wasn't. I said that impressing those people isn't a big concern, because the type of people who would judge a whole country based on one person are not exactly brilliant.

And Bumcheek, we still have all the Allies we had before the war, in fact we have more, the leaders of the world aren't stupid enough to hold a grudge against a country because they did one thing they didn't want them to, much less when thier intentions weren't so pure to begin with.

I think we do, we have Lybia now that supposedly that mummy guy is nice now, we have Iraq, we have... ok thats about it, but we didn't really lose anyone. Relations being shaken mean little to nothing, in a couple of years everyone will have had someone take thier place and any hostilities that were there before will be gone. Of course the Iraq war wasn't a goodwill gesture to the rest of the world, but when it comes down to it, the only country opposed to it that has it's hands clean was China, and when China is the good guy, you really have some fucked up shit.

That's not irony, that's a crude joke and besides being completely irrelevant, it's also an incredibly stupid observation. Unless you have the urge to go back through a vagina to the womb (which I sincerely hope you do not), you do not have the urge to undo what was done at your birth, making the comparison itself flawed.

First of all I would like to specify that I'm a french speaking Canadian radical-left wingded with Chilean origins. It is there that I, during my youth, met anti-yankee\redneck people considered then as freedom fighters before be recently know as "Terrorists".

On september 11 1973, the CIA managed to assassinate the first democraticly-elected socialist president of human history, Salvador Allende. 5000 people were estimated killed by the Pinochet regime installed there by the US government on the 10000 people missing. WTF did the other missing 5000 went? Well we never really find out since your well-venerated Henry Kissinger implanted a free-trade zone for war prisoners amongst US supported fascist countries. On "your" 9\11, when we learned about the 3000 poor New Yorkers that died that day, we felt sorry and sad because once again innocent civilians had to die for your imperialistics stupids foreing policies. Since that day, the US don't have more allies, they only bought the friendship from a couple of poor countries while losing the respect of the G8 and the UN.

When Bush speaks for all of Americans, WTF!!! They don't teach you guys in school that America goes from Nunavut (Canada) to Tierra de Fuego (Chile) making all the countries on the continent between these 2 AMERICANS AS F******* WELL? In other languages, we always make the difference between an american and you.

What makes Canada and the US is FEAR! Pragmatism and rationality is a good thing but abusing of them cloaks you in your own little reality not allowing you to accept the differences of others around you. It then gets you crazy and makes you bombing other countries for 10 years making around 200 children deaths per day... Or go in your own high schools and shoot yourselves.

BTW, the province of Québec is world renowned for the physical appeal of our women. You must have jerked yourself often looking at a canadian chick without even knowing it. Voltaire was the biggest inspiration for the redaction of the almost 200 years old US constitution, making it the oldest and less adapted constitution of human mankind. Our scholarship and medicinal fees are all covered by our government. Our childrens eat real food, don't get fat and don't shoot each other even if we have more guns per citizens than you guys. BTW again, were you aware that 16% of US children can't even afford a Big Mac per day? Why would terrorists attack Canada if they can come live here with no questions, go to school, eat well, have sex and get a house for almost nothing? And if we don't have a big army it's because we don't care about it: even our prime minister has more boats than our army!

Anybody wants to invade Canada? Go ahead, make yourself at home and stop by my place, I'll cook a moose barbecue before drinking real goddamn beer.

I dont see the problem with calling people from the United States of America "Americans" Sure, it's not TECHNICALLY correct, I suppose, but otherwise we're stuck with calling them "Yanks" which would lose its edge after a while.

Second; http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ca.html

A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Its paramount political problem continues to be the relationship of the province of Quebec, with its French-speaking residents and unique culture, to the remainder of the country.
Well I've certainly learned a lot about my own country.

http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/middle_east/uae_relations-en.asp

Canada enjoys excellent relations with the United Arab Emirates, founded upon substantial commercial ties and frequent visits by political and business leaders.
Yeah I know, my ex's father worked with them.

well la-dee-da then.

...Jimsween, what were you trying to prove by posting arbitrary links about Canada and the middle east?

Third, where do you think you get your shoes from, or your clothes, are you honestly that self righteous that you believe USA is the only country that buys stuff made in sweat shops?

What do sweatshops have to do with terrorism? Show me a correlation.

No you weren't. If you were you would have asked why terrorists would want to attack Canada, which I already explained beforehand.

You must be pretty thick. I'm trying to prove that Canada imports huge amounts of oil, and other things that are produced in 3rd world countries.

Third, where do you think you get your shoes from, or your clothes, are you honestly that self righteous that you believe USA is the only country that buys stuff made in sweat shops?

Pathetic. Just don't bother posting punk, if this is the type of stuff you come out with then it certainly isn't contributing anything to the forum. You managed to change the topic, draw attention away from your argument, ask a question that had little to nothing to do with the post, and completely forget what has just been posted before in two sentences.

You asked me how Canada was a blood sucking leech, I showed you, and when it became clear you were wrong, you decided that originally you weren't even talking about Canada being a blood sucking leech.

It is fascinating that you equate the US and Canada so strongly, but from a "South American" perspective living in the diaspora, I can totally understand your point of view. (And having lived in Montreal for part of my life, I totally agree with your assessment of the legendary "hotness" of Quebecoi women). I thought this was the most compelling post I've read in this string, and I'm shocked that no one before me has commented on it! Maybe this is the real measure of the now often-suggested "lack of quality" of the politics forum, that when a forceful, intelligent, and not necessarily U.S. or Canadian centred opionion is posted, no one even seems to notice. Maybe its not so much how Canada is different than the US, but how we've let ourselves become so uncomfortably similar!
