It has one button in the traditional sense of a mouse.

I've used macs now for 3 years, after converting from Windows. And I'll never look back. I honestly can't see draw backs to the Mac OSx. It's much more powerful and much better thought out than Windows will ever be, despite Windows making 4 times as much money.

For it's innovation. And the fact you can use boot-up to run Windows on a Mac (but why would you want to), It's a win-win system.

Ugh, Macs. There a lot of reasons I don't like them. First of all is the people associated with them. Every single Mac user I know takes every single opportunity possible to declare why you should be in fact using a Mac. Nearly every one seems to be extremely influential too, and has a Mac to be 'creative and unique'. Yet at least 75% of Mac desktops looks exactly the fucking same. On that note, so does every Apple product, it's the same unoriginality on various sizes of device.

The OS itself is pretty terrible once you get over the aesthetics of it, it's extremely impractical. All the glossy effects have gotten in the way of practicality, and pretty much shut off any sense of being in control of what goes on. The amount of 3rd party software available is pretty limited, which isn't really encouraging when you're trying to find a solution to a problem. The look and feel can't be changed beyond changing the wallpaper and moving the dock about. The only proper theme I've ever come across was some hideous looking green-beige thing which reminds me of John McCririck for some reason.

The major reason Macs are popular with some people is that Adobe release most of their programs for OSX, which appeals to the art college students, who seem to make up a large chunk of the userbase (probably linked to what I said about being influential).

The hardware is pretty awful once you get over the looks, it's very hard to upgrade components due to a few modifications to the hardware that seem to specifically prevent the user installing new hardware without paying Apple some horrendous price. And Apple's mouse design must be one of the worse I've ever seen. After the initial problems caused by only having one button, they now seem to be designed for people with no fingers at all.

And don't get me started on the pricing...

graarghghrhg I needed a good rant

Pet Peeves about Windows
I'm a developer so I'm going to go about this from a developer standpoint and not bother covering the "viruses, right click, and games" arguments you people so like to latch on to.

1. DLLs
FUCK DLLS seriously. It's an outdated piece of shit way to reuse executable code. If you have a different or wrong version of the DLL in question, your program will still run it'll just give random idiotic errors, crash, and burn. So... What DLLs does my program need to run? I'll just stick them in the same folder as the exe and all is well. Using SDL... and openAL... and openGL... and that's about it. OH WAIT NO visual studio links with it's standard c/c++ library too, which unfortunately isn't a standard header on windows and has a different version for every version of visual studio and 40 different versions for each type of processor and junk and it's stupid. I think I solved it after a while, but DLLs are hell to organize, especially when you have multiple versions of the same dll on your computer (and programs need a specific one to run, not any one)

OSX has a much more graceful option, "frameworks". It's a package format where it stores data about the current and past versions of a specific dynamic library, much more organized than microsoft's crappy DLL system. Plus, .app packages on OSX are way nicer than windows .exes. I can package all my resources and frameworks and junk into one nice .app package. It's a glorified folder, but when you open it it runs the program inside instead. No need to distribute the game as an exe, a folder of resources, and a list of DLLs to install, just zip the app and the user never knows that it is actually a package.

2. Xcode / Visual Studio
Visual studio has a better debugger. Too bad the good version costs like a crapload of money.

I use Xcode on OSX. It's a cleaner, nicer coding environment and it's FREE.

Visual studio takes FOREVER when you try to open a text file with it. That's expected for a project file and junk, since it's a massive bloaty program, but it's a pain to double click a small .cpp file and have it spend 2 minutes starting up.

Xcode takes some time to open up a project file too, but here's the kicker: when I just click a raw cpp or h file to open, it starts up near-instantly (and doesn't load any of the project management IDE junk, basically just acts as a lightweight text editor). That's huge, and a really awesome feature to have when i'm working on small junk that doesn't need an IDE for compiling.

3. Screenshot tool

print screen is way outdated and retarded. On OSX, I hit cmd-shift-3 to screenshot the whole screen and save it to the desktop as a png (no ugly copy-paste junk). BETTER YET, I hit cmd-shift 4 and get to select what to capture by dragging a box. Or, instead of dragging a box, I hit space, and it'll let me capture 1 window, no background objects, and is nice enough to put the alpha transparency drop shadow on the window too (see: http://www.closuregame.com/Log/screensho ts/2009/08_AUG/Picture%2019.png )
(this is built in OSX stuff)

4. Spotlight. I type what I want to search for on my hardrive, it takes about a second to find EVERYTHING (searches in files, in filenames, etc). On windows, I hit the search button and the dog with the magnifying glass pops up and talks to me. I tell him what I want to search for, then walk away and go cook dinner. I come back and he's found 2 things, neither of which are the one I want.

5. Everything else. There's a ton of hidden OS usability things on the computer. I don't even realize how much I use these features till I move to windows, and suddenly the tiny features I use all the time are gone.

6. Windows API, Cocoa API

BOTH are retarded in my opinion

Cocoa: void NSApplicationPoolShittiness(NSString*&&*
** nuts, NSShitballs n)

Windows API: HANDLE WinGetHandleToKeyboardKeyCapitalA(LPVOID HANDLE, WCHAR_T, LONG_INTEGER, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, 0, NULL, NULL, 0);

You know what Mac users? I can play L4D2 on my laptop. And you can't.

And that's why I love PCs.

End of the argument, there's really nothing left to say.

Also, Macs have shitty processing power when it comes to games. At least the ones I've used.

Macs are good for stuff like recording/making music or editing videos; everything else I want a PC for.

Wrong. On my MacBook Pro if you want to right click using the trackpad you simply tap with two fingers instead of one. I hated using my trackpad on my old laptop, I'd always plug a mouse in. But with the Mac, I never use my mouse, unless I'm playing a game.

Yes, i've used a new mac

I used it about 6 months ago when our school media room was outfitted with them (the techies admit that was a mistake now)

I hate it because everybody is basically the same. "macs are better", "why?" "just, cos"
that pisses me off to no end.
People also say that macs are better for graphical work, to hell they are. Name one program that hasnt got a windows version or windows alternative for it. Normally cheaper as well.
And to hell with macs being faster than pc's, most people who say this havent used a pc since the P4 era and are now using a dual core mac. Offcourse they going to be faster if its newer hardware.

AND WHATS WITH THE PRICE, its just a fashion accessory for insecure people

1.Have you talked to JollySpace?
2.If so, when?

Ah, but if that's the case, then why does Windows still have over 93% of the market share?

Not arguing for one side or the other.

I really want a Mac. I have read three pages of NGers bitching and moaning about what they think, and now I want to say my opinion.
I want a Mac for three reasons:
1) viruses, virtually none ( yes there are some )
2)Faster, I want a faster computer without all the problems of Windows
3)And I want one for their looks basically

Uh, no. It depends entirely on it's specs. Macs are not 'faster' by default.

3)And I want one for their looks basically

I was playing around with a macbook pro the other day, and I thought it was terribly ugly, there's absolutely nothing on the front, not even little stickers that advertise the OS or processor. It's dull to look at.
