3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsI am about to start college. I have a problem. I don't think I really want to go to college. I kind of just want to work a middle end job. My question is what motivates a selfish man to do good in school if they don't think they want it? The only reason I am taking out loans and starting is for my mother. Any advise or motivation?

I'm motivated by the idea of me getting a higher paid job than I would of had other wise. The fact my family doesn't have a single university degree among them makes me more motivated to do well as well.
You know, probably excluding my cousins who lack a fucking life.
This too will pass.
Memento mori

Any degree, to be honest.
That's part of my problem I don't really want but loads of money I just want enough to support myself. I have always been middle class.
Well I'm kind of like the black sheep of my family, who tend to go toward physically orientated jobs while I'm more technologically inclined. I'm going to be studying Game Design next year, no one in my family has ever done anything like it - which (in an odd way) motivates me. That, and I have a great passion for video games.

Why would you ever care if you're going to be making more money?
Just make the fucking money. There's no other alternative that wont label you as retarded.

I don't really care about money. I don't have motivation to make more money. Why should I be wasting thousounds of dollors and 4 years of my life on something I don't really care about? What is wrong with just working a middle class job? My mother pushes college on me. I don't think someone that I grow further apart from every day is going to be enough motivation to waste 4 years of my life and lose more of my individuality.

I don't have a WoW account. =(
I don't play WoW. I just don't care about money that much. I don't have a extavagent life style. Also I dislike most people with a lot of money they always turn in to corrupt ass holes.
You can always get an Associate's degree or go to a Vocational School if you don't want to invest in four years of school but I think college was the best years of my life.
The things you can study in college are pretty broad, from business to art to physics to computer science etc., and I'm sure if you looked in to it you find a major you would like. I've met people who spent their first two years in college not knowing what major to choose, and there is people like me who changes their major in their junior year. College is all about finding out what you want to do and learning those skills.

No, that's horrible advice.
Some degrees are worthless like... psychology. That is... unless you get a master's.
I've seen many people graduate with that degree and can't find any work.
Get English.
It's a degree that has a lot of opportunities. It maybe not your favorite, but has several windows of opportunities to do something else.
I am getting a degree in computer science. I just was hoping for some reasons why people go to college for motivation. I wish I would have done good in high school. I have always wanted to be a doctor but I have to be realistic now. Maybe once I complete my four year degree in computer science I will go for a medical degree. Is that crazy?
Weed, beer and lose girls.
Wait, you wanna learn in collage?

Really?
Unless you go into teaching I can't see that being too useful. Editing maybe, but you can become a writer without a degree. I've always seen English as a second in a double Major. To be honest the only worthwhile, time and money wise, programs in university(not college or community college) are hard sciences. The others are pretty similar, just a degree to your name.
Not saying it isn't worthwhile to learn, I'd personally choose soft sciences over hard. In a career outlook, you don't really get into anything specialized with those but you do learn a lot as an individual which is what many companies look for. In the end it's just credentials, life experiences, and better learning skills.
