3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsPeople of Newgrounds, I am the creator of the Pencilmation series, and come with a request. I am currently looking for anybody who would like to lend me a hand tracing my rough animated drawings in Flash (with the pen tool). If you are looking for a bit of Flash experience, want to improve your animation skills by working with my drawings, or just care to help out the cause, then please don't hesitate to respond to this post!
*It is necessary that you have a copy of either Flash 8, CS3, or CS4. Also, a tablet pen is pretty much required unless you really like drawing with a bar of soap aka your mouse.
I can't pay anybody as the Pencilmation cartoons don't bring in anything other than the occasional beer money, but I can definitely offer you a big fat credit at the end of the cartoon, and an unlimited supply of high-fives.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Sounds interesting, but do you mind explaining to me how exactly do you do this? My guess is that you draw the frames on paper, scan it, and trace it in Flash? If that's true then this shouldn't take long I bet. I got all the stuff you requested, so there's a chance I might help you.
I won't really use the pen tool... Infact, its my least favorite tool, I hate it...
I am trying to get my flash drawing skills better, however I only have a mouse. If you do not get anyone else who is interested I would be happy to help!
I can do it. Assuming that you draw it on paper what I normally do is trace over the lines of he paper with a fine blunt point creating a depression then put the paper over my tablet and trace. The depression acts as a rail way track for the pen making a better looking line. Then I use the eraser tool to make the brush marks more aligned however I can and will use the pen tool if that is what you want.
PM me an image and I will do the above as an example.
I have Flash 8 and CS4 (both pro) and a Wacom Intuos 3 (not the newer one, but just as good, the other has some more buttons).
Looking forward to possibly working together in the future.
Sorry for the double post but here is an example of the brush tool with eraser to make it look better. (It also has pressure in it, meaning thicker to thin lines)
It's a logo for my mom's business which is teaching people about being pregnant :P
She made it with pen and paper and I did the method I mentioned for it.

I don't use paper, but I draw with the paint tool on a wacom tablet. Then, to achieve that wiggly line effect that I use in my Pencilmation cartoons, I trace over the line on a separate layer with the pencil
tool on a special setting. Yes it doesn't take too long, but it can get tedious if one spends a long stretch of time doing it, hence my desire to disperse the work to a group of people. Let me know if you are interested.

Correction! I see that I stupidly said pen tool, when I meant pencil tool. I trace over, on a different layer, the line that I drew with the paint tool, with the PENCIL tool.
I would Letohelp but I have no Experience with the Pen tool, i only use the Pencil and Paint Brush tool, Sorry

Right, that was a typo. I meant to say the pencil tool, so if you are interested PM me and I will send you some details.
I could help. I have CS3 and a Intuos 3 tablet :)
sounds interesting, and i definetly enjoy your work.

I could lend a hand if you want?
captainmcross, I've finished the scene you sent me :D Should be emailed soon :)
Love the Pencilmation series, and would love to help.
I have Flash CS4 and a drawing tablet, and the pencil tool just happens to be my favorite! ;)
If you still need some help, I'd be happy to do so! :D
PM him with your E-mail address, he will send you a scene to do. (Haven't got my Email yet, though he has apparently sent one)
If only more professionals were like you instead of egotistical assholes
pen tool sucks though
I dont even know how to use it
Does anybody ever read more than the first post? It was a typo.

Cool! Send me your email address and I will send details and a sample scene.
I'd offer to help depending on the work load.
I use flash CS3 and am savvy with both the program and using a tablet.
arthurghostly.newgrounds.com is my real account ~ But if you're going to PM me - do it to this one.
The only issue is I'm unsure of how much free time I will have in the foreseeable future to work on it.
If it's just a few in between frames here and there I could do it - but I couldn't really help with an entire movie.
done with my part
im emailing it to you
I don't exactly understand what you want.
Do you want us to trace your drawings to create your pencil animation "pencil lines"?
Or do you want us to create drawings for you so you can animate them?
Or what? I am not getting the jist of this.
Strychnine and cyanide. A healthy part of this complete breakfast.

Cheater cheater! You lose 5 points of respect for hiring tweeners. It's a great idea, but you're getting people to do your dirty work for free, and hurting my feelings when I know the finish product has been rotoscoped by a bunch of noobs. How could I vote 5 in good conscience ever again? Soon you'll be making shape-tweens and outsourcing them to Korea fbf'ing.
Tedium is what makes fbf feel classy.
For shame.

So what is it that is wrong with assistants or outsourcing to Korea? It allows for the content to be more awesome, definitely in this case.
It was just a generalisation.
I guess I'm just worried that people make a few animations, build a fanbase, and can just get free help with the long and boring parts of their animations, which will still score the same, be listed under one name (disregarding credits), the main author will get all the glory for it, and can pump them out with workers going at it simultaneously.
Jealousy is a bitch, eh?
Uhhh... I've run into a lot of difficulties and may not be able to finish that last scene you sent me, though I will send my progress (around 60%).
well I guess I'm out
my animation didn't "flow" with the rest of the movie
He submitted the episode :D

You know, I'd be happy to help you! You can probably send each artist a bit of the work and then we can all compile it into one!
