Obviously there's a lot of possible hybridism involved in this, but I wasn't being specific when I gave examples like Zelda and Batman.
If you honestly haven't played at least some of the classics, you can't call yourself a True Gamer because those are the types of people that are 12-year old boys that only like Halo 3 and CoD, like people that can't carry a conversation about future games past Modern Warfare 2 and Halo ODST.
I, despite what some might say, could/would/should categorize myself in the True Gamer genre because I can play any/every game, even if I don't like it I will at least give it a chance.
I would actually only put my little brother in the casual gamer section because as much as I love the guy, his attention only stays on one game at a time (Pokemon right now :( srsly?) and when I tried to show him FFVII, he only expressed boredom and the want to go back to his little genre.
Btw, my favorite game of all time is actually LoZ: LttP so I'm not generation biased.
You fail, my little sister is 12, she plays halo, call of duty, mario, my atari 7800, pacman digdug, galaga, forza 1&2, need for speed, sim city, she is exceptionally good, stop making examples of people you fucking idiot. GO THE FUCK AWAY
