What do you consider "pure evil"?

As in, what comes to mind when you think of evil? What do you consider to be the ultimate evil thing, be it person, act, organization, etc.

Personally, when I think of evil, I generally think of the Borg from Star Trek. While most villains I see have some kind of compassionate side, the Borg do not. They exist solely to assimilate the entire universe, and don't give a damn about identity or self-determination. They are cold, cruel, calculating, and above all, ruthless.

The ultimate evil, in my opinion, is power. Power corrupts weak willed people into doing terrible things, along with that it also causes its own downfall. That is my opinion.

Hmm, maybe I spoke a little harshly. The Borg, though feared by us (or rather the human race in Star Trek) on a primal level, are really just perpetuating the species the only way they know how: assimilation.

In any case, I'd like to redact my original candidate for pure evil and replace it with the monster within. You know, the anger and fear and negativity we collect over time that could just explode into a symphony of violence and destruction given the right trigger.

Very true, though certain acts come close to being established as completely and undeniably pure evil (rape, murder, etc.).

But they have, in their mind, a benevolent cause, to bring unity and end conflicts, and also increasing their own knowledge by assimilation.

I'm a moral relativist, most people believe themselves to be morally right, and act accordingly. Only people that may consider themselves as evil are some sociopaths and serial killers.

I can see what you are talking about, like everything is for a greater good, blah blah, and there are no absolutes in life and all that philosophy. I was hoping someone would say that.

I don't really consider anything to be "evil". No one being or entity can be "pure evil". There are no evil people, no matter how horrendous an act, the person who committed it can justify their actions to be necessary or the best course of action available to them.
