They don't plan to have comets hit earth; that would be stupid. They plan to have comets come close to earth and their gravity will pull the earth slightly further out. Do this a couple hundred times and earth will be in a safer place.
I'm just worried that something will go wrong, they screw up, and one of those comets actually does hit the earth.

It's an idea, not a theory that will be put forward. This is just a newspaper putting a factual spin on things. We have several other less dangerous idea's to reduce global temperature, and NASA don't have the authority to hurdle comets at the world.

can we just suck it up with the global warming for another billion years until we actually need to move the earth... There are way too many ways this can go wrong. Putting a comet close to earth on purpose to create a gravitational pool? jeez.
