So recently, I've been experiencing some changes. Now something about me is that even if everybody hates a band, I can still listen to them with moderate tolerance (like Korn, most glam metal bands, etc.). As if that didn't make me enough of a musical black sheep, I've grown a taste for the band Paramore. A lot of guys I know (and even a few of you) hate them, calling them "girly" and "gay". This is made even stranger considering the bands and music I usually listen to. It's honestly a guilty pleasure, I just like the instrumentation and the singer's voice. Now NG, I ask you this; Should I worry about liking this particular band?

I suppose not, guess I'm just too easily worried. Just beginning high school does that to a guy.

Be like most people I know, say you listen to just about everything and say some general songs. Even though, you know that their main taste is somewhere else.

Paramore is a good band. They have talent and the singer isn't a total slut. I approve of your choice in music.

I wouldn't. Nobody listens to the songs I like but I don't give a fuck. Just because someone likes / dislikes something doesn't mean you have to do the same.
Don't give in to peer pressure.

You're being sarcastic, aren't you?

Indeed. My favorite band is Metallica, I pretty much have to follow that logic.

Good advice. But why do I feel you're being sarcastic too?

I'm not one to follow most bandwagons anyway, thanks for that.

Don't worry about what music you choose, Metallix. Music in general, is a form of expression, so don't be ashamed or afraid to hide what appeals to you, whether it's hardcore death-metal or a popular band like Paramore, it's all good my friend. :)
I myself listen to Korn, Disturbed, and Immortal Technique, and I'm sure a lot of Newgrounders disagree with my choices, but it's what makes me me.

Funniest thing? I actually like both hardcore and Paramore. =P
Thank you all for this advice, fellow NG'ers, I'm glad to know I don't have to worry about opinions as much.

You're either gay/bisexual or you aren't. What you listen to, music wise, isn't going to change that. I listened to a lot of Placebo at University, still appreciate Queen etc etc.
Despite that, I still hanker for the ladies!

basically what your asking is "should i be worried of what people think of me"
to a certain extent, yes. but music wise, no.

However, if you ARE gay/bisexual, it could have some effect on what you listen to. I notice a lot of gay/bi people have an obsession with Bullet for my Valentine or other punk/emo bands. Not Paramore though. Paramore is the FURTHEST thing from gay.

I can't even talk about a lot of the music I listen to with friends/colleagues as I mention the band/artist name and they reply with "Who?" - they just know what is/has been popular here. Having friends overseas means I've discovered the music of some bands that either haven't taken off over here all that well or haven't even attempted to launch here. It does mean that seeing some favourites live is a challenge. But yeah, don't worry about what others think of your music taste. You might absolutely hate something they like - each to their own, and all that.

Yeah, just listen to what you want man. Before, I was into all kinds of rap and stuff, and now I hate it. I'm into the 70s like Queen and Journey and stuff. I also like paramore too.

No. Everyone has different tastes in music.

No, you shouldn't give a shit, but you shouldn't advertise that you love paramore either.

No shame in what you listen to. I used to listen to Dragonforce. Now I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd, for which I am very thankful for. I still get my fill of awesome guitar solos, along with calming lyrics and great beats.

That's a lie and you know it, I've seen a couple of really terrible ones, most of them are local though, you know, 5 potheads getting together singing lyrics in the mic in a boring tone and the guys that are doing the instrumental part missing notes and can't sync up right. And yet still, they had people that liked them, simple for the fact that they're local.

Perhaps you are going through puberty my dear boy, allegedly liking a band is only a phase in your life style, it won't last forever.

Yes, you should fear for your life. Nothing is more dangerous and risky then being attached to a shameful band like that. Luckily, there is a cure, just follow these simple steps.
1. Throw out/delete all music/stuff you have of Paramore 2. Stop thinking about Paramore 3. Listen to decent music 4. Bash head against wall repeatedly if none of these work 5. ??? 6. Profit!

Nah, I listen to all kinds of stuff. Devildriver, Gucci Mane, Static-X, Eminem, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Rush, Ace Hood and yadda yadda. That's just a bit of the music and it doesn't make or break anything for me. So you should be fine man.

I listen to everything from Anthony and the Johnsons to Slayer - Hayley has a lovely voice (that holds up live), the songs are catchy enough, and they seem to enjoy what they do (which is all you can ask of a band; to love their music). You don't have anything to be ashamed of, but why did this become such an issue for you?

Nah man just listen to whatever you think is cool. If you like something and someone thinks you're gay or something for liking it then they're fags.
