Piano Sfs And Vsts For Pads. 2009-09-03 15:04:03 Reply

I'm working on a very ambient-esque DnB track and I've placed the melodies and everything but no effects and mixing can honestly make the piano soundfonts I have now sound good. So, seeing as there as some pretty talented and experienced EDM artists around here, what piano soundfonts do you use? I would prefer freeware, but I'm willing to pay $$$ for a REAL GOOD one.

Also, as I'd rather not make 2 seperate threads... any VSTs out there that have a great sounding soundcore that's somewhat ideal for pads?

Thanks in advance. :-)

So are you looking for piano sounds that'll make a nice synth pad'ish sound to back your song?

Haha, that's kind of what I'm trying to create but I want vsts and soundfonts that create individual pianos and pads, not both. :p

Nexus has wonderful piano samples that also have a pad effect sort of thing going on. I'm not crazy about Nexus other than it's piano samples.

I actually did a collab with a friend from college you could check out to see if it is what you are looking for...

Also, Edirol has some wonderful real piano samples. When I want a realistic classical sounding piano I always go to Edirol. Simply wonderful sound. For an example of that, just click that linky below to my newest movement in my Chronicles series. I used Edirol piano samples in it.

Also, try to stay clear of piano soundfonts. For the most part, they are the fail. I used them for a while, but often times they clip when you raise the volume to any audible level in a song. That is just what my experience was like with using many piano soundfonts.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for you post Gravey, but although I do somewhat like Nexus' pianopads, they're linked together and that's not what I want.

I want pianos, and pads. Not pianopads. XP The reason is because I want the pads to have a different, somewhat carrying melody while the piano takes melodic control. For that I need them both individually.

... Yes, this is a bump. :d

If you're looking for piano VSTs, I suggest Absolute piano(s).

Absolute Piano

It might be a bit pricey, though. It's either all 4 pianos for $95.00, or individual for $59.00 each (the bundle price is a great deal). Maybe try the demo and see if it is right for you.

Well it does have simple piano samples. I just misunderstood what you were looking for. Nexus does have regular piano samples, as well as pads by themselves.

I'm personally not a huge fan of Nexus other than the piano stuff though cause I'm just not into that kind of music. But I've heard a lot of people talk about how great the many samples it has are, including the pads. So it does have pads and piano samples seperate from each othe that you could use.

Best of luck with your search.

Hi there,

The best Piano's are sample recorded Piano's. Which have been recorded by each note and velocity. We use the Eastwest Colossus 32GB soundbank library, which includes loads of various recorded instruments like Violins, Guitars, Flutes, Piano's and many more. It includes a 2GB big Piano which sounds great.

Eastwest now got a new pack called Goliath and also includes the Colossus library and some others as well. There's a simple Native Instruments Kontakt 2 VST included which makes it possible to combine these samples to one instument, so you can play around with it in your DAW program.

Of course there are many other libraries which are more specified with Piano's only.
I also found (haven't tried it, but should be great) another
Eastwest Piano library pack.

For the pads we mostly use our hardware, but Spectrasonics Omnisphere is also a sample based VST which we use a lot for our pads. You can layer, edit and put many effects on these kind of samples to create your own sounds. This one is definitely worth the money (or download ;))

Hopefully this will help you out, of course there will be other options too, but these are the things we've been using for quite some time now, and we still use them every day.

Cheers,

Nick
