of course, to get a booth you have to have your club approved by the school. so how exactly did a group of this nature get approved by the school, and what on earth could they do in there that is school appropriate?
I understand that a lot of people are gay and im fine with that, this isnt a gay bashing thread i just wanted to share this WTF moment.
even funnier, the majority of the school is joining as a new "trend". and in case any one cares i didnt join any club because i like to drift from room to room.
ehh questitons/comments feel free to post
and i guess this thread needs a purpose...
do you think homosexuality should or should not be open for discussion and practice in the public school system, why or why not?
.
Don't steal.The government hates competition.

Yes, there is absolutely no reason as to why it shouldn't.

The school probobly approved it because they know if they say no a kid is gonna sue their asses for discrimination.

What could they do that's school appropriate? So all gays could possibly do with their time is sexual things?
I was a member of GSA (The Gay Straight Alliance club) at my old high school. We discussed gay rights and oppression, and what to do in the face of discrimination. We attended Gay Empowerment seminars and did rallies and potests and the like. It's an activist group rallying for gay rights not a gay sex club.
It's sort of inappropriate for a school...So no it shouldn't be there.
Make a straight alliance to piss 'em off.
War is Peace.
Freedom is Slavery.
Ignorance is Strength.
um...who cares who is gay and who isnt? we are all people and thats that!
if my calculations are correct. When this baby hits 88 miles an hour, your gonna see some serious shit!
haha you guys will all get a kick out of this, the state im in is Utah, the mormon state. the mormons which completely oppose gay rights.

I don't see a practical reason why not, it is only a religious problem, and a public school shouldn't be affiliated with religion. However, I know it would really push some peoples buttons and cause more bad then good.
I am pretty surprised a club like that was allowed.

I hope you realize the crippling amount of irony in your post.
I don't think there is a reason for it to not be there, I mean they're not really doing anything that's bad. I mean as long as they do things that are productive then they should be able to have a club to do...stuff.
Shut up already.
I see nothing wrong with it, its not like you have to join it or anything so whats the big deal.
Only thing I see as a bad thing is that it would make homosexual haters will most likely target that club...
As long as there is a political agenda tied to the group I think they have every right to create such a club, especially since they don't have full rights that strait couples do. Regardless of your religious feelings, church and state are separated, and marriage as a civil institution is not the same as marriage as a religious one. There is no justifiable secular reason for preventing such a marriage. And as such, I think its entirely appropriate for the issue to be raised once people are of a certain age and able to look at and understand the facts. The fact that you have people identifying as gay at your age means they are not only ready but should be aware of what faces them in the future.
If this were some "kissing" club it would be different, but it isn't. I know plenty of places that have minority and diversity clubs that have an LGBT group. So I'm not surprised or concerned.
yeah its the gay straight alliance, couldnt remember the exact name.
and i was thinking of making a straight club, purely for the epic lulz.
i think ill have to stay with my stance that hot lesbian couples are fine, that is all.
.
I know, lets make a club for people at an age where they are uncomfortable and whatever about their sexuality for gays. So the other kids can mock them.
Join and vote to rename it "The Anus Alliance".

very inciteful, i actually just googled the club name and found a lot of different sites on the subject, supposidly this is a big group around the world that discusses opression and things like that with a gay community, didnt realize this club was on such a large scale.

I they can't do that. When I went to school they had a gay straight alliance but they can't exclude people for being straight. Schools are so corrupt. You should make a White club and see if they allow it. If they don't you could have a lawsuit on against your school.

I'm sure they would have to let a straight person in if they wanted to join.

Sorry for all of my spelling errors and shit I didn't read it.

It actually is called the Gay Straight Alliance Club, OP messed up at first. Of course they wouldn't turn down straight members.
OP is ignorant.
The Gay Alliance isn't a club to talk about homosexual sex, it's a social justice club. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. There is absolutely no reason why the discussion of gay rights and oppression is inappropriate for school regardless of the majority opinion on the subject.
At 8/31/09 09:39 PM, CashClock wrote:Make a straight alliance to piss 'em off.
There's no reason for a straight alliance because heterosexuals aren't oppressed.

Are you more approving of lesbian couples than you are of gay couples?

Yeah, they have them all over the place and in Massachusetts, I believe that a number of gay youth associations are partially state funded.

Straight people can join the Gay Straight Alliance.

Even so if they allow the gay club to exist with straight people they could allow the white club to exist with other races. If they don't let him create a white club then that is discrimination.

Typo. Naive*
Close enough.
At my college we have a club called ALBIG
It stands for Association Lesbiennes BIsexuels et Gays
I don't think they'd refuse straight members, they advise anyone to go visit them...
And even if they did, I don't mind since we have special associations for different programs.
My signature was old so I changed it.
Why isn't there a straight alliance where kids sit around and look at porn and talk about boobs?! Not only would that make everything fair, but they would get a lot of people interested!
Sorry for double post. The mechanical failure on my part in this thread is astronomical.

Why create a white club? White people aren't discriminated against. Neither are straight people.

Really white people are the most discriminated against. They are constantly bashed on by people for there ancestors enslaving the blacks. They are constantly bashed for how they talk. They are constantly bashed for how they walk. They are constantly bashed for not being hip. The main point is if they don't let him make the club he could make a lawsuit against the school.
InsertFunnyUserName name sure is ironic, he obviously has no sense of humour. 3/4 of my first post was a joke the only serious part was starting the discussion. and half those posts you quoted were also a joke. if i was seriously only interested in talking about lesbian couples id visit some other site.
here, ill retype all my serious facts so you dont have to exert yourself to read any more than you have to.
i believe being a homosexual is just fine, but same as religion it shouldn't be publicly taught or have a club based on discussing it. of course it should be discussed among students, because it is so controversial but not in a school format, since it is so opinionated it could cause a lot of problems internally in the school.
of course, we can all dream of a perfect world where people can humanely talk about controversial subjects but that world is not quite here yet.
im not trying to call you out or anything, i dont want a flame thread. though i do have to agree with you, calling me ignorant was a bad choice but naive is pretty much the perfect word. i do admit at the beginning of this thread i wasn't very incited, just more laughing at the idea of a gay straight alliance. but now i see what its all about and i know its not necessarily something to laugh at.
though i do have to say, at least, my school is not ready for a club of this matter. sad but true. and i think the same goes for a lot of schools, supporting my argument that the majority of students think of it more of a joke than a serious club with serious discussions.
