1.) How much money are you approximately making off your audio portal submissions alone?
2.) Is there any set length maximum for how long a audio track can be? Like, could I upload something say 15 minutes long if I wanted to as long as I made it?
3.) As long as I credited the original artist or band in the authors comments, could I upload songs on the audio portal that are 8-bit covers? As in, turning metal songs into catchy Nintendo sounding tunes that could be used in plat formers and such.
Thanks in advance.

lol you dont make any money off your submissions unless someone likes your work and wants you to write them an original track for something. in that case, this month I made about 100 bucks.
2.) Is there any set length maximum for how long a audio track can be? Like, could I upload something say 15 minutes long if I wanted to as long as I made it?
no but there is a limit of size, which is 8MB.
3.) As long as I credited the original artist or band in the authors comments, could I upload songs on the audio portal that are 8-bit covers? As in, turning metal songs into catchy Nintendo sounding tunes that could be used in plat formers and such.
This I'm not so sure of. people do it all the time but I don't think you are supposed to.
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure of this either - I think you can but you can't allow anyone to actually use it in a game that will profit - otherwise the metallicas of the world will come and sue your ass..

well according to a post by FDA in the copyright and sampling thread which can be found in the "new to audio look here" link, he says "COVERS are acceptable but this means they are remakes.. not REMIXES.... you can NOT include part of the original song.... no big samples aka chunks of the tune.... NONE in fact!"
so there you have it. you may.

I forgot to add, however. If you are going to recreate a song that is under copyright, it is no bueno and illegal unless you get a mechanical license. your only hope is to pass it off as a sound alike but even then its risky cause you'll be recreating recognizable portions.

Not a single piece is taken from the original, it's ENTIRELY newly made. If I uploaded stuff like that would that get through or no?

I'm not talking about taking a piece from the original. its the fact that the song itself is under copyright. yes it will more than likely go through and you probably won't get any static over it (and it is pretty badass) but it's a toss up. technically you cannot copyright Musical Phrases or Chord Progressions but you intention was to re-create the song that was under copyright. So I wouldn't but theres gonna be an assload of people that will disagree with me any minuet now :)

You can not copyright a sequence of notes. As far as I know, it's okay to recreate a song from scracth, as long as you don't use any samples of the original.

lol if you read I said "you cannot copyright Musical Phrases or Chord Progressions" I know that. But you can't make a cover without the permission of the copyright owner.

2 dollars so far.

As long as it fits the 8mb limit you are fine, though you will give up quality.
3.) As long as I credited the original artist or band in the authors comments, could I upload songs on the audio portal that are 8-bit covers? As in, turning metal songs into catchy Nintendo sounding tunes that could be used in plat formers and such.
You can cover a tune as long as you credit them and do not midi rip. I don't suggest covers as a first submission to the audio portal as some may or may not cross the line.
Thanks in advance.
I hope I didn't quote fail.

Pennies if you rely on your audio submission alone. Pretty much all of the adshare I get on NG is from submissions using my audio, only a few dollars have accumulated from audio portal adverts.
2.) Is there any set length maximum for how long a audio track can be? Like, could I upload something say 15 minutes long if I wanted to as long as I made it?
There is no length limit, however there is an 8mb filesize limit. If you want to release a long track, consider doing it in parts as opposed to compressing it and killing the quality! Also you could always release a sample on newgrounds and have the full download somewhere else.
3.) As long as I credited the original artist or band in the authors comments, could I upload songs on the audio portal that are 8-bit covers? As in, turning metal songs into catchy Nintendo sounding tunes that could be used in plat formers and such.
Technically yes, this is covered under fair use. Generally speaking, if you use none of the original recording in your track, and provide credit, you are well within the bounds of tribute work, and therefore covered by fair use. Fair use also does, to an extent, cover remixing, even of commercial tracks, however for first submissions there tends to be a moderation sway for totally original work. You will not be banned for doing a cover, however!
