How many of you have played this game? When I was younger and my mother had bought me Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, I was never able to completely beat this game without dying. I found it to be much harder then the other mario games.

Yes, and that the second one released in America was actually a duplicate of some other Japanese game, right?

I played some of the true honest-to-goodness SMB2: I have a friend who managed to whip up a Famicom Disk System emulator, so he was able to emulate the original SMB2 and Metroid.

Yeah, it's based on the game Doki-Doki Panic, which, oddly enough, was actually created by the original SMB team.

Anyways, I've played the Lost Levels via the Super Mario Bros. Collection on the SNES. The game is hard, but not in a good way. It's just mean spirited and a dick to you, the player. It basically killed the essence of the standard Nintendo game. I really dislike it.

It's really hard, but then again, it was meant to be hard. Challenge aside, I thought it wasn't quite as fun as Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World, so I never spent a whole heap load of time with it.

In my own honest opinion, SMB the lost levels is quite a fun game. Sure a lot of people don't like it due to difficulty but hey let me ask ya this one question: When the last time Nintendo EVER made a difficult Mario game? Just this one, and hell back in the late 80s NOA pulled a dick move by turning Doki Doki Panic into a Mario game(don't get me wrong, SMB2 for the NES is actually one of my favorites) because they thought the Japanese sequel was too hard for children (yea I know this is common knowledge now of these days). Bottomline, I like this game because of its hard difficulty :P

I had the version on Super Mario Bros Deluxe for the Game Boy Color. The farthest I ever got was world 7-2, but this one part was so f***ing frustrating that I almost broke my GBA in anger. I haven't even tried getting that far in the last 3 years, and I don't plan on doing so for years to come.

Lost Levels was great because you kinda got the feeling that the guys who designed it were being sadistic as shit about it. It just made beating the game all the more satisfying.

So, this brings up another question: If they could put this Japanese Famicon game completely for the NES virtual console, could they also bring over...The first Mother game?

Yes. The reason being was because it promoted a Japanese show, and nobody would buy it here. Miyamoto actually had more to do with this game that SMB2. US didn't want the promotion, so the Mario name was slapped on it, and that is why Mario is pulling vegetables out the ground.
