Pirating films and music, while not good or right is fine compared to pirating games. Why? Games take constant maintenance, they have to constantly be updated with bug fixes and servers need to be maintained, this isn't free.
Take team fortress 2 for example, how much does that cost? $15 or so and for that you get years of constant updates and development, VALVe can't just do that all for free. Pirating games is fucking stupid, okay sure pirate a single player game, but multiplayer games like team fortress 2? Fuck off you piece of scum.
I would agree if that logic if not for ONE problem.
I live in the UK.
Now, I hear you ask "so what?". Well us lucky brits have to put with all the industry's shit for no reason, just so they can make extra money.
Rock-band was TWICE the cost in the UK than in the US.
And now CoD MW2 is jumping on the cunt train and adding a 10% increase for no reason on the UK ONLY, whilst keeping the US release the same price annnnnnnnnnnd cheaper.
So, if I want to download a game from a bunch of money grabbing cunts I will, if I want to support the developers, I will.
And before you get on your "High-horse" about this I have never downloaded a game I intended to buy, EVER.
Only games I wouldn't have bought, (ever) and that was caused by boredom. I take pride in my legally owned games.

Don't forget the fact that you guys also have like a 17% tax on everything.

Wait what? Play.com and a few other UK stores are the cheapest among europe. On steam UK pays the least too. I have no experience with UK retail stores though, that may be another story.
So zetta slow!

I'm also from the UK and I've NEVER pirated a game that I could legally obtain and use online. You're a complete fucking cunt. That argument works for music, because once you've downloaded the music it costs the industry nothing, but when you pirate a game the company still have to provide you with bug fixes and maintain the game. So you're literally stealing their money.
I've pirated three games ever. One, the company went bust years before and you can't find it anywhere. Another, I got bored of and removed. The third, I already bought for 360 anyway. And I never play it online.
Stop looking

Nowhere near as annoying as America's added tax on purchases. That annoyed the shit out of me.
I pirated oblivion and I am ashamed, seeing as how it's the best game I've ever played :c

Because getting full or rage will help your argument so much.
Unless your Un-familiar with how "Cracked" games work I will explain it simply:
Patching becomes horribly awkward and many people don't do it.
So In effect, many pirated games never make it to the latest patch, so your argument of us "stealing" that is compleatly invalid. Never mind the fact that patches are FREE to everyone, and before you say thats because said people bought the game, lets not forget that if it had a massive flaw then you'd complain, causing a bad reputation for the company.
And pirates don't complain, and often if it is a good game we will recommend it to friends and maybe even family.
Never mind the pirates who go and BUY copies of good games they liked while they pirated. (More common than you'd think, I bought Uplink because of this for example).
Now, the intresting question, is where you got such a strong viewpoint from. I mean its not like PC Gaming has ever been a fun run.
I've got a bunch of games I BOUGHT that are causing me massive problems, while some games that I have pirated work 100% fine.
DoW 2 (Bought within 2 weeks of release) won't start properly
Command and Conquer 3 (Bought within a month of release) has awful server connections
Red Alert 3 (Bought within 4 months of release) has broken Multiplayer and a not working friends list.
Battlefield 2142 (Bought awhile ago) refuses to install
Fallout 3 (Bought on night of release) Crashes despite the fact I almost always have 60FPS
Have I had ANY of these problems with a pirated game?
No. I have no 0 problems once I got it installed, say what you will but my free copies are on average working better than my bought ones
Also don't pirate Indie games, or else you are a cunt.

I can't understand this argument. What problem do updates cause for people who pirate games?

Let me guess, you're a "Fuck ea, they've got lots of money so it's okay to steal!" dick, aren't you? So what if the games don't work? That's a problem with your computer, they work perfectly for other people. Stop trying to justify your cuntish behaviour.
Meh, I'm kinda on both sides in this subject. On one hand, stealing is wrong. Of course the companies need money. On the other hand, Sometimes the games just won't work. Seriously, just hear me out before you go all "RAWR you just hate the large companies".
This case- the Fallout 3 DLC. I don't know about US, UK or other countries, but here in Sweden, the only way to get them is to download them from Games For Windows. One problem though- It won't work. The base program works fine, but in order to get the list of games and all that other stuff, I need to install an update. Fair enough, but oops, apparently, "this support page is not available in Swedish". Whatever. So I download the goddamn update, which takes like 20 minutes, try to install it, and what do I get? "The language in the update isn't the same as Games for Windows uses. Please try another update."
>:(
So I look all over the goddamn website, trying to find that update in swedish, but couldn't find it.
So I said fuck it, downloaded it from Mininova and it worked perfectly.
Yeah.
You defeated the post! Gained +1 post count!
My favorite site in the whole world as it is so effin awesome
I pirate games, I pirate almost every game I download, except valve games. I'm just a cheap bastard and don't want to pay for them, they're not too expencive, I have plenty of money, and I live in america where the games aren't as expencive as they could be.
I just don't buy them because I don't want to pay for them.
Abortion is an acceptable choice to get rid of a baby
Is OP truly expecting to change anything with this thread? It's nothing but stimulating people to pirate even more with such attitude towards people.

I'm not talking about people who buy the game then torrent it for whatever reason, that's perfectly acceptable because you own the game, but saying "It probably won't work" and then torrenting it without buying it is a joke.

Why do people even give a flying fuck about being sympathetic to a fucking video game company? Should we actually ENCOURAGE them to make money? No, you stupid fuck. We just buy games, we play them, we don't give a shit otherwise. Besides, a LOOOOOT more people buy instead of pirate.

Using your logic allowing companies to take your money and give you broken things is perfectly fine.
Why don't you walk down to a store and buy a broken chair, then when you take it back because IT IS FUCKING BROKEN remember that the people who made that chair were a "big company" and therefore you complaining is being a dick.
amrite?
Oh wait, I'm not. I am not anti-big company, but when I spend around £40 I expect it to work. And when I spend nothing I expect to get nothing.
However I seem to be getting that IN REVERSE. So on that cheery note, who is the bad guy in said example?
The person who buys the game that doesn't work and get pissed, who then pirates games more often because his bought ones are often bugged
Or the company which supplied the broken item and made a profit.
Mmmmmmm?
Maybe you should stop trying to justify being an internet tough guy for no reason and actually make a post without the word(s) "Fuck" or "Cunt".
Your not changing ANYONE's behaviour because of this, all your doing is filling up the NG servers with more swear words and internet rage.

Learn to read my posts, I quite clearly say that I'm talking about people who pirate without purchasing. If you've bought the game and then download it I have absolutely no problem with it. Learn to fucking read.
Maybe you should stop trying to justify being an internet tough guy for no reason and actually make a post without the word(s) "Fuck" or "Cunt".
Internet tough guy? hahahaha. I'm a fucking pussy, but have a bad habit of swearing. Just because I fill my post with swearing to compensate for my poor vocabulary, that doesn't mean I'm trying to come across as some sort of tough guy.
Your not changing ANYONE's behaviour because of this, all your doing is filling up the NG servers with more swear words and internet rage.
seriously? I expected to change people!
I have pirated 3 games and had decent reasons for both.
1: Resident Evil 2, I love this games and bought it for PS1, Gamecube and N64. Last year i wanted to play it again only to find that the N64 version was not working and the PS1 Claire disc was scratched and Leon disc was missing(i gave the Gamecube version to a friend) so i said FUCK THIS FO SNIT and torrented(?) the PC version, which worked perfectly
2: Crysis, I pirated this because i was just curious to see if i could run it, and i couldn't.
3: Fallout 3, i already had the Xbox 360 version and wanted to check out the mods.
It kept crashing on me anyway.
So pirating is ok if you have a reason other than you don't want to pay for it.

It's a matter of time when game developers will make you buy special disk players that can't be hacked.

would pirating be considered pirating if you have previously bought the game, and lost it? or payed for a shareware game and the computer crashed? because i have only "Pirated" 2 games, but i previously owned them,
1. crimsonland, i had this on my old PC, and my brother had kazaa and crashed it.
2. duke nukem 3d, i have the game, but the disc is too dirty and scratched up, so it wont install.
