Band help

So, I started a band. My best friend, the metalhead, is the drummer and a girl is the singer, thing is: They're pushing for the band to be metal, somewhat emocore and the Progressive/Psychedelia band that I founded.

Now personally, I don't like metal. I know about it, but the shit that comes out of it makes me sad. Seriosuly, metalcore sucks. Emocore sucks. But, they're trying to bring in a guitarist that is not only an emo, but thinks that Dragonforce is good and their speed is not studio-made.

If I draw the line, I'm a lone bassist/guitarist. If I don't, then I'm stuck being made fun of by you guys and it makes me a hypocrite.

How do I stop my nightmare without losing my friend?

TL;DR- I fromed a band that was supposed to be like Pink Floyd/Yes/Traffic/The Beatles/The Doors and well it's ending up like Evanescence. I need to fix it. How do I stop my nightmare without losing my friend?

Of course you're a better bassist it only has 4 strings.

Anyway, if you genuinely have the talent, then you can call the shots. Tell them, politely, that they're taking the band in a direction you hadn't originally intended, and because of it you want to leave the band. They'll either let you leave or make compromises.

Don't do like I do and stick with an emo band, people will end up disrespecting you, and you'll get no real credit.

Just do what I do, walk away from anything emo, stick with the true to life stuff, not the waah waah exaggerate how bad everything is shit.

You're doing yourself a favour by not doing anything emo.

Either tell them to get real, or walk.

They're all interested in Indie power chord verse,chrous wankery.

Find different people to be in the band, and stay buddies with the guy, if you don't want to do metal, make it clear.

Best thing you can do is just start making music. Everyone will have a different idea at first, but you need to test the water and see if everyone will come together. If things aren't working, just try again with different people. I'm sure it won't hurt your friend if you just tell him the style and direction isn't working for you.

Also, it's a shame you don't live near me. I'd be very interested in starting a band like that.

I feel you. I'm the only guy that listens to King Crimson or Yes here. The Drummer is influenced by Dream Theater and Rush's drummers by the way.
