I think he is doing very well. As far as "change" it is pretty much what i expected. He is changing quite bit. A huge economic recovery package, hopefully health care reform and lots of lobbying reform. I think a lot of his voters though were being ignorant. My experience is that both sides of the political spectrum harbor an equal amount of ignorant people who huff and guffaw and yell talking points at each other.
The ignorant people who voted for Obama thought there was heaven on earth starting with his first day in office. I did not expect this. I expected a normal guy who is different in the sense that his actions are more pragmatic than many politicians. Definitely not all. there have been many good pragmatists for both sides. I happen to feel that the right has given us more idealogues though, with W setting many new precedents in that respect.
As far as the sentiment that he is "just another politican" I would say that he is just doing what he has to do. His pragmatic style includes playing the politician role correctly to get things done. this was one weakness of clinton. While he was an incredible statesman and inhuman with his charm he wasn't able to strong arm when he needed to which is why his health care reform was killed.
I dont think Obama will return for a second term though. But not because he will do something wrong, just because We could have elected God himself this term and in 2012 we would be blaming him for the Economic crisis. Peoples memories theses days seem to only be as long as the latest news cycle. There is no history anymore, at least not with the american general public.
