O levels look like they were way better, and more challenging, than GCSEs. Same with the old A levels too though. Particularly maths.

Anybody read about the little Jap who did GCSE Maths and got A* this year? I think he was 8 or something, cocky little bastard said it was easy too. I hope he gets beat up.

I only got two of my results because of the way the school works.....I did two GCSE's this year and the rest will carry on over til next year.

Today I received my piece of paper which stated that I got a C in my English exam.

It was one with poems and stuff. Very hard, but I'm pleased because I hated that exam.

No it was a set of 6 poems I think. We could do either the first half of the Anthology or the second half. We did the first half. Here are some of the poems we studied.

Nothings changed
Vultures
Blessing
Night of the Scorpion
Two Scavengers in a Truck...

And one more...But the name escapes me.

Thank you for the begrudging congratulations. I'm doing English Lit, French, History, and Economics.

Also, I know you meant the 'easy' jibe as a joke, but that does remind me of something highly irritating. I know this should be a day for 'celebration', but some things do deserve getting grouchy over. The media always has to put a negative slant on everything. Exam results are getting better. Surely it would follow that teachers are becoming more creative or schools are becoming more organised or something else positive. But no. It has to mean that exams are getting easier, because to suggest otherwise would be to say that Satan-Worshipper-Elect Tony Blair did something right in his ten years of office, god forbid. I heard there was a Newsnight poll in which only 20% of people thought education had got better under New Labour. What other way is there to measure this apart from exam results, and exam results have improved every year. If they were getting worse, the newspapers would be pointing out how education has regressed. A lot of it also stems from bitterness. Many of the older generation are jealous of the opportunities that young people have nowadays and choose to blame the standard of exams instead of accepting that they will be better educated. I think generally younger people now are more enlightened.

Don't worry; I'm far too laid-back to be rich. I'm fully prepared to leave uni and shrink into a world of vanishing opportunity.

Yes, thank you. Some of the retardation around here must be toxic. The last year has been very Newgrounds-light for me though, not because of any concerted effort to 'do my studies', but just because it started losing appeal. I've probably only made about 1000 posts in that time. It would greatly surprise me if people could stay on here for four/five years + without taking a break somewhere along the line.

Crikey.

Got my results:
Maths: A
Eng Lang: A
Eng Lit: A
DT: C
Spanish: C
History: C
Art: A
Science: A
Additonal Science: A

6 As and 3 Cs.

Surprised with my Spanish and History though, I was sure I wa going to get a least a B ( the whole spanish group is being remarked because of the low average grade).

I'm taking Physics; Maths; Graphics; and English Language for next year.

I think you have a point in saying that older people are often jealous, however I do honestly believe GCSE and A level exams are less challenging nowadays.

In maths we were given 2 exam papers, one from the year before, and one from an identical sylabous but that was 30 years old. The older one had so much more actual creative work, and you had to work things out for yourself rather than remember clearly outlined methods etc.

Needless to say the average grade on the old paper was almost 2 grades below what they were on the new paper. In fairness would say some of that difference was down to difference in method, because on the old paper you chose like 4/10 questions to answer.

FFS Tramps, how many times.

1. Employers don't have a clue what the difference is
2. ICT is a useless A level no one even respects
3. Computing and ICT combo will be considered by many employers and university to be to similar, making ICT redundant, in most people's opinion you will have taken 3 A levels, not 4
4. ICT is an awfully boring subject

Go to change it to an arts subject, or electronics/chemistry/geology

I did three of mine last year:

Maths: A*
English Lang: A*
RS: A

...And the rest:

Physics: A (Which I was surprised with, I was expecting A*)
Biology: A
Chemistry: A*
French: A*
English Lit: A*
History: A
Art: A

And a bonus, non-GCSE:

Additional Maths: C (It was a very difficult paper, this was one of the better marks, most people got U)

Leaving me with a decent set of 5 As, 5 A*s and a C.

I'm pretty happy with that.
