Somebody Trashed My Fucking Bike

Locking your bike up anywhere other than a main road is just begging for your front tire to get stolen. I'm well aware of this, and so I locked my frame and my front tire to the bike rack on a main road.

I have to bike 30-40 minutes into downtown in order to hang out with my friends because of my recent move. I also have to bike that far to get to my work. Today (Monday) is my day off, so I biked down in order to get some wings and say goodbye to a friend who's leaving for university.

I come back to my bike at 2:00am to find that not only has somebody attempted to steal my front tire that was clearly locked to the bike rack and my frame, but they also left the front brake bent out of shape and broken in doing so. I tried fixing it with no luck.

My bike is at least 6 or 7 years old, but this summer it has gone from a nice mountain bike to a piece of shit over the course of a month. People have tried to steal it before by guessing the combo. It was left at 1111 one night after work and then dropped on its side. The back wheel bent and now the gear shift is finicky and the back tire is wobbly. The back brake is really loose and I don't have an Allen key to fix it.

Fuck, I'm actually so pissed off right now. I don't know why it is so unreasonable to leave your bike unattended for a couple hours and expect it to be in the same condition as when you left it.

Leave your bike locked up like usual, and hide. When you see someone try to steal it, walk up and fucking smash them!

It's not like it happens every day. I lock my bike up every day though, and it's happened about 3 times. I think I'm just going to move it to a different bike rack from now on, or maybe even see if I can keep it inside at work.

I was going to post something like "yeah sorry that was me" but then i thought wait a minute i bike around all the time and how would i feel if my bike got trashed. I'd fucking flip. And you have every right to do so. What i would doo is find a more secluded place to park you bike, practically hide it from the public. Dude, you have no idea. If you leave your bike anywhere other than your own yard in Cincinnati, it's good as stolen in 30 minutes or less. When I was a kid, my bike got scrapped several times and stolen entirely three times. They can pick padlocks and combination locks. My combination was tough, too!

I hate fucking shitty vandals/ thieves. I had to leave my motorbike at the side of the road a couple of times in Edinburgh and some cunts have shoved it over twice. Usually breaks indicators and scratches my fairings. Cunts, every one of them.

Don't think anyone has tried to robberise it yet though, but I'm glad my own house has a garage.

I think I actually saw a bike get stolen a week or 2 ago. This guy who I think is homeless judging by the large amount of poor old fashioned clothes he was wearing appeared to be undoing his bike lock. And then he hopped on it and rode off without even putting on the helmet sitting on the handle, showing he was in a rush to get away with the bike.

I feel bad because I didn't realize the bike was being stolen until he was on the bike and gone, people who steal bikes are inconsiderate assholes who don't think about all the money young people spend on these things as their only source of transport, and when stolen they have to work out a way to get home.

Just whenever you park your bike if it's near a store or building with people in view, ask them to watch your bike for you. Sure, it seems weird to ask some random people to guard your bike, but it's better than some dicks doing whatever the hell while no one is watching.

A lot of people I know who biked in college brought their bikes inside. Its a different atmosphere and not necessarily something your friends would let you do, but if it isn't too muddy, wet or dirty you should as a friend to keep it in his room or something... If I biked to work, I'd be taking that bike up to my office.
