Do you know what the major options are at that univ?
(solid state, fluids, acoustics, theoretic, semi-conducter, astrophysics,...)

I haven't decided on a career yet, if that's what you're getting at. Originally I'd planned to take the Physics With Astrophysics degree, but then I found out that most, if not all of the astrophysics modules were available within the optional modules in the normal degree, so I went for that instead just to avoid limiting myself. Still planning to take the astrophysics modules initially, but if turns out I'm particularly bad at them, or I simply stop finding them interesting, I can take a different field in later optional sections.

I'm onto my second of seven months of a welding course at the local polytech.

I'll make more money than my friends in a shorter amount of time, and I'll be doing a lot of physical stuff and working with molten metal and fire while my friends go and push papers.

That's one of the worst majors I ever heard of. You get a shitload of arts projects, all required to be financed out of personal finances (materials and such and they require high level stuff) and then there is that whole artsy vibe where teacher fail you because they think you haven't put enough soul in your creations.

Here's a good tip: on your first finals week, remember to sleep. By Friday of my first week of college finals, I had accumulated a total of 10 hours of sleep since the last Sunday night, and I ended up sleeping for over 14 straight hours and slept through a class where we were supposed to hand in our portfolios of our work with revisions and present a poster to the class.

Don't do that.

Today was my first day. I signed up as undecided, but I'm considering a major in computer science with a minor in some other field where I can have an occupational excuse for still having my virginity: "It's not because I'm an asshole, it's because I'm a computer programmer!" Not telling you where I'm going, but I still live at home.

I started today at College of DuPage, a community college in Illinois. I'm still undecided about what I want to do, but I'm thinking about a major in history and a minor in theatre.

While I'm not starting college (not for another three years...), a good friend of mine is at the nearby community college. She's majoring in IT, and is especially interested in defense systems, but of course, has to take all of the regular required college courses, first.

What was interesting about it was that she said most people at the college call it "Godby West", because so many people there came from, or is dual enrolling from, the high school with that name. She also said that it felt slightly like HS again, because of the small class sizes, but yeah, that is the community college system...

Hi, Ive been going to Harvard to major in being a lawyer, and minoring as a detective. for the past year, I've met alot of interesting people who want to change the world. Surprisingly enough, I don't fit in. Life gets hard at times, and the work is extremly heavey. I yet manage to stay alive and not fail. I feel at times people laugh at my real dreams, but I was pushed alot when I was younger. I personally just want to find true love, have 2 kids, settle in a nice house, and get away from all the school. I personally also feel this has kept me from making friends, that I sometimes forget the meaning of a friend, since many have gived up on me. This isn't time to give myself pity, but to release all the damn stress I get from my parents, school, and homework. the summer rocks, and it sucks that it is ending. Did I also mention I failed spelling? Amazing what schoolarships can accomplish.

Also I am going to college. Excited, obviously, but also worried that I won't be able to keep up with my peers in terms of academics. Maybe if I could learn how to NOT procrastinate... (yeah right)

Think of it less as a competition and use your classmates as a resource when applicable. Focus on keeping your grades up and not so much about how others are doing. Also you're gonna have to learn time management or you're not going to make it. I almost fucked up big my first year with that and I got my ass in line after that whole ordeal.

That's advice for you all too. Balance your school time and friends/social activities and you'll be alright.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I'm going into my last year of college.

Majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Theater.

Been fun.

I'm gonna go back to my room and be awesome.

Yeah, I've still got that competitive high school mentality where you feel the need to "beat" everyone and getting less than straight As is "bad." That'll probably die pretty quickly, but I guess it just takes time and the actual experience of college for it to happen.

Also you're gonna have to learn time management or you're not going to make it. I almost fucked up big my first year with that and I got my ass in line after that whole ordeal.

Indeed. It was getting pretty bad at the end of my senior year with 5 AM English papers and the like. I'm bad at setting studying routines, but I think I'll do better at college. Being less addicted to Newgrounds than before also helps.

But I'm curious; how did you "get your ass in line?" Did you set aside time for studying or cut out activities that were eating up study time? Or did you simply force yourself to study when you normally would not?

That's advice for you all too. Balance your school time and friends/social activities and you'll be alright.

Well that sounds easy. ;)

Funny thing was that I discovered and got more involved with NG during college because I had a decent amount of free time.

Basically I was going out with friends all the time, even when I was supposed to be studying, reading, or doing assignments. I told myself I would do it when I got back, but I always got back really late with no reasonable time to get it all done. So after the near disaster of being unprepared for first few classes was taken care of, I simply set up a schedule where I got my work done before going out, or if I wasn't done by that time, I stayed in and did my work instead. It's not hard at all to manage but I was just putting social stuff ahead of school and that had to change.
