Yea I know, its just that usually our local films aren't that great. I see its got some good reviews, I just want to hear people personal thoughts on it.

not my opinion but most the people I know with some form of taste for cinema highly enjoyed it.
Neill Blomkamp is one to follow, I think.
I have seen Alive in Joburg and that was great.

I really liked it, It was really unique and not what I expected at all, seriously at the start I was thinking it was gonna be crap, 20 minutes in It starts getting good then it becomes awesome. You must watch it.

Yea, I hear thats what it's based on. It make's me really happy to hear that its done good. I barely see any local films hitting international waters, and rarely see any local films that have substence.

Yeah, I really dig that he's managed to create a film revolving around the issues that have occured in South Africa such as Arpatheid.
It sheds some light on the stuff that many people ignore and South Africa is not the most well known country. But boy does it have some history.

Yep your right:) What I find intersting, is that he chose to tackle the subject of apartheid with a sci fi storyline. I think this will be very interesting to see, I am looking forward to it.

I really like the political message, it doesn't cram it down your throat like some movies.

I'm not personally offended by "bad" language of any kind, but I thought they could've fleshed out the script a little more rather than just having Wicus say Fookin', or Fook you every other sentence.

I was really happy to see the colonel (MNU strike team leader) get what was coming to him. Also the African rebel leader.

Haha. This is afrikaans humor. Alot of the boer farmers and stuff say it. Sometimes in the right context it can be funny, and maybye it was there for the authenticity? But to be honest, I get really anoyyed by it to.

It was a good film but not groundbreaking in anyway. Memorable but not unmissable.

That's cool, my Mum is from Cape Town. I agree though, The God's Must Be Crazy is the only good South African film I can think of.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it. It's released in the UK next week so I'll be seeing then.

And its not like I intentionally go to thease movies. See In the movie theatres, local movies take preference and then you are forced to watch it.

Movie? This wasn't a movie...it was all real.

Sadly, Christopher Johnson died a few years after he returned, he was a great prawn.

Horrible.

I can't see how anyone could like a movie that had a plot following some dude with an alien arm thanks to getting splooged on by alien gasoline while being chased by humans who somehow treat the aliens like they're cat food addicted, 12 foot tall slaves with advanced weaponry yet remain total pussies.

I won't apologize for spoiling because you're missing nothing.

It kicked ass!

The thing that really makes this movie stand out to me is the twist on the classic "alien vs. man" formula. Instead of having aliens dominate people, you have the opposite. Instead of the happy "kill the aliens and leave" ending, you have...well, I don't wanna spoil it for anyone, so I won't say anything. Suffice it to say that you'll be quite surprised if you go into this movie expecting just another regurgitation of that said classic formula. I never knew what was coming next while I was watching District 9.

What the hell, I didn't even know it was out.

I guess I'll use Sunday to go to the theaters and watch it. But then again, I did want to see that one other movie...But I don't even remember which one it was. Oh well.

It wasn't believable in the slightest. I'm not talking about the aliens and their technology. How did Wilkus magically get out of every scenario at the last moment. How did they break into a government building and not get shot and escaped instantly, I'd think they would barricade the exits and the cars would be locked. Why did the prawns only help Wilkus at the last moment.
