This really pisses me off. I bet you that the higher-ups who enforce this law pirate themselves. I think this is utter bullshit and greed. Thank god for using VPN servers and proxys when pirating. That's what I do but, I don't pirate that often. I would refuse to pay the fine if they pulled this shit with me.

With the punishment the RIAA is allowed to inflict, it's not just a fine, it's larceny. I think we're going to be hearing about many more cases than this until some kind of precedent is set in the supreme court. In the mean time, the department of justice approves.

So people are actually being threatened for pirating? Lame. I mean we do deserve it but the fines should only be the cost of what we pirated.. ugh

Btw, how do I change the timezones so I can put mine on NG?

Naota doesn't play that shit

I don't, I think that the punishments are to harsh for people who file share, I think that someone caught file-sharing should be charged $.99 per song downloaded, $1.99 per movie downloaded, and $1.49 for any other media file shared, this would be comparable to the prices of iTunes and would be considered a fair punishment for convicted file-sharers.

I'm definitely not against piracy, and I have pirated in the past, but I'm not doing that stuff anymore, it's a serious offense, and people do get caught, and it's just money I really don't have.
If you steal a 20 track CD from a store, you get maybe a small charge and that's all, if you download that 20 track CD, you must pay a hell of a lot more, so... If you guys are going to do anything, steal the actual CD.

If you get caught pirating things then you're doing it wrong. You should only do it as a statement that you want the prices to be lowered. If you can afford something you shouldn't pirate it. If you think it's ridiculously priced or it's means of acquiring are difficult then you should be allowed to pirate it.

Well as for my view, if stealing the CD is less of an offense then simply clicking a link and downloading the CD, then that's just not right one bit. I agree to the fines, but not the half-million fines that ruin people's lives. It's just downloading, it's not murder. The fine should be no more than 200% of the actual cost.

I mean, look at it this way, a speeding ticket is a mere $200, speeding could of murdered people. Downloading 30 songs is a $500,000 ticket.

I'm extremely against the fines for pirating, but not pirating itself. iTunes is the worst place to get music and I really see no point to downloading mp3s, how do you know if those songs were pirated or not? The rules make no sense at all for how they can catch you.

Anywho, let's not rant here, but I think prices should be extremely dropped on movies and music if they wanna lessen piracy. If you think about it, the cost to physically make a copy of an album is probably only $3. And you pay like $15. So... Yeah.

Wow... Seriously what the hell? If ever a guy from my ISP tell me to stop pirating, I'll just say that he can go f*ck himself in hell and I change my ISP. For the guy i forgot the name, whos problem was that is ISP is monitoring is internet use, do they legaly can? As i know, they need a warrant to be able to check your internet use. And too they arent cops...

I lost the number of game I downloaded from the internet, most we're really old game no longer found in shop... I suppose in Canada ISP dont give a shit about your downloading, cuz if you go over the download limits ( which can happend easely if you download a lot) they get money. So then why they would kill their milking cow?

20/100= 20 cents a disk. Understand that record companies buy disks by the thousands, so each disk costs them maybe a few pennies. Factoring in the base cost for equipment, paying the band, you still have an enormous profit margin. But, as the RIAA sees it, you're paying for the RIGHT to listen to the music when you buy a CD.

Most purchased content has DRM now. That means even though I legally bought something, they decide what and how I can use my music or movie. Making a backup copy or trying to convert it into an mp3 is just as illegal as pirating the music. Sooner or later, they will put DRM on all CDs, so that you can't even rip your store-bought content onto your computer, legally at least. Hell, it's already been done to DVDs. I like high quality music. When you purchase digitally, you're certainly not getting that. The iTunes format .m4a has a bitrate of 192kbps. That's fine for your punk-rock hipster who's listening through one earbud on the subway, but not for me. I like to slip on my Sennheisers in a quiet room and take in my music. For that, CD quality is a must. I want to be able to put on my 1024kbps FLAC music and hear every detail. Show me a digital content store that sells in FLAC, I will be amazed.

Exactly. Instead of improving their product they're chasing down the people who don't want to pay for a shitty product. That's the problem with the music industry; if it were anything else they'd improve.

I got warned for using a piece of software once, they said the fine was over $100.000
I would have bought it if they wouldnt just had doubled the price (without doing anything else than announcing a sequel, wich is still not out) Im glad I pirated it, cause it was shit software full of bugs, glitches, not user friendly and you couldnt do shit with it

I'm curious as to the fine for piracy on the high seas. I'm sure those Somalians don't make $2m a year.

the funny thing is. is that if you have a good eye (for file names, suspicious crap etc) and good computer knowledge you can pirate stuff without getting caught.

I don't pirate, it takes WAY too long to download and i have a job.. thus i cna pay for my stuff huzzah!

Saying whatever I want because the internet is just 1 more giant bank happiness to rob.

And I believe they're called Pennteledata or something.

Seriously, apparently a 10 year old game is worth as much as 50 recently released music tracks.
