School needs to be fixed. I know that education is one of the most important things in life, and I know that school is a wonderful thing, but there is a lot of shit that needs to be done. You just fucking sit there for 6 hours, most of which we are learning trivial knowledge you probably will never need. I know the basics are important. But seriously. Last year I learned about different kinds of rocks in science. If you look at it, we spend more then half our childhood, wishing we were somewhere else. Why don't we just learn the important shit? If I wanna become a fucking rock scientist, then I'll learn about fucking rocks on my free time. The 5 months we spend learning about the names of the governors in 1759, and what Metaphoric rocks are, we could be improving our writing skills, learning advanced mathematics, and disusing about world events.
Do you guys get what I'm saying?

Excuse the rant.

I say that homework should not be given to children. At least not in grade school. With all this "going to school", and then even giving them stuff to do for school when they're at home, they're not even allowed to be kids anymore!

I know what you're saying. But it's mainly because of the fact that there arn't just intelligent people in class. although learning about the scientific method for a month isn't exactly the best use of science class. If we were put into classes we need and classes that might actually help us, that would be different. I wanted to be a mathmatician when I was in 8th grade, yet I still had to take civics. I understand we need to have something to fall back on if our dream job won't work, but there is no job in existence that has to do with social studies that I would want to have.

1. Any future skill has to be left open. If you would skip all different disciplines people should know what they want to do in life when they are 12. That's not feasible.

2. Even though the content is out of practical use, the structure isn't. There's more to math class than solving quadratic polynomials.

3. In Africa, childeren are friggin happy to go to school.

I know what he mans, and agree to a degree. Students should be focused on what they do good at. History, english, and math should be the MAIN focus (science too, but i dont hink i will need to calculate the velocity of two trains goin different directons, and when they will meet). There needs to be less drama (uniforms! why? cause then everyones equal, clothing wise at least) and teachers need to be tested every year on what they teach

Hmmm?

I thought this was the case already.

(science too, but i dont hink i will need to calculate the velocity of two trains goin different directons, and when they will meet).

Actually, that's mathematic reasoning of reallife problems. If anything, this is one of the things that should be basic knowledge to gain in highschool. Scientific reasoning and deduction are key features for an intelligent future life.

There needs to be less drama (uniforms! why? cause then everyones equal, clothing wise at least) and teachers need to be tested every year on what they teach

perhaps acceptable. But people tend to support uniforms cause it's a group thing. Also it is discipline and dealing with authority. I do agree that teachers need to master the things they teach themselves.

When you leave school you realise that much of it was useless, but not all of it. Knowing trivial things can actually be life saving, and you may be on who wants to be a millionaire. How would you like it if your friends were laughing about something but you didn't know a few basic facts, and they all stared slack jawed at you, and your once future wife stabs you.

"Ignorant cunt!" they'd trill.

Just put up with it, you seem to be concerned that you won't be learning relevant details, but I'll bet that you think computer games/chasin' tail/'batin' is more important right now.

Double TF?

Also, I somewhat agree with the OP, but it is important to know the basics of most career fields.

Except my school has no programming classes.

You realise they teach people like you this stuff is so you feel like you're learning the same stuff as the upper-class smarter kids, who very well may want to become geologist or platonic scientists. They just teach it to you so that you think you have a chance in life.

It's easy to spot, the stupid/no-hopers always complain about the school system and the smarter pupils accept it as an inevitable journey to their chosen career path.

Teachers get paid more if they work longer, so more "learning" (IE Oh I didn't know that, but who the fuck cares) has to be in a few grade levels, meaning that you would probably go to college at 14. And that's retarded.

School isn't just about learning what it is interests you. It's about immersing you in the mechanics of society. They want to expose you to your peers in age at an early age, acclimate you to the work environment (ie: going somewhere you may not want to go to do something you may not want to do) for limited instantaneous reward and vast potential reward, and teach you HOW to solve problems in general as well as the specific ways problems have already been solved.

You guys say you want to just learn the shit you're interested in, but how do you know what you're interested in if you aren't even exposed to everything there is yet? I mean, if you want to flip burgers for the rest of your life don't you need to know how to read "medium rare with lettuce/tomatoes/pickles and ketchup" first?

Barring trade schools and private schools, it's not until after High School that you can really be considered qualified enough to learn many specialized subjects.

You go to school to learn the basics. There, you find out what you find interesting. For example, I to hated earth science but I love biology and I want to expand on that (biology is too broad, thus colleges are there, unless your high school has the other classes. My high school was SMALL).

Oh, and a rock scientist=geologist iirc.

If it were for the teachers, some other things would be learned. Really, being a teacher can be frustrating to reach those pre-set deadlines.

What I hate the most is English Lit.

Why teach children how to analyze Shakespeare, when they don't even know what a transitional word is? They don't know the basics, so why teach them the higher up stuff? And why the hell do we need to study Shakespeare? He wrote a bunch of plays that were made for the common man of England back in the 1600's. Nobody talks like that anymore, in fact they never talked like that. He just made it all up. And the "common man" of England in the 1600's were stupid! Shakespeare was just pandering to idiots, the George Bush of yesteryear.

My PSN ID is xscoot. Crazy, huh?

The thing I don't get is how much harder school is now. You could fail a whole semester and still pass back in 2002. Now you can fail 2 classes and that is it. Summer school or be held back. The work is getting harder and the amount of kids passing is getting lower. My parents have no idea how to help me on my homework sometimes. This never happened until I reached high school. They look at it and say "I never learned that!" or "I didn't learn that until my senior year!" Imagine how hard school is going to be when my 8 year cousin reaches high school.

Part cultural patriotism. Shakespear is one o the biggest English events in culture.

Also, Shakespear is a prime example of stylistics and comprehensive reading. At that age you can no lnger stick with

As I said before I know whats important. To pick a profession, you must first be educated on a little bit of everything. (To make the right decision) But a lot of the things are pointless. Unless your on a game show, you won't need to know um. Why do you need to know who created the cotton gin, when your 13? Its just getting to the point, were its well...stupid.
