Dwarf Fortress is an awesome game, and proves that, beyond a doubt, GRAPHICS DON'T MATTER (well, having good graphics doesn't matter I mean).
The game is incredibly deep, despite still being in the Alpha stage of development. It is a Rougelike/RTS/RPG/Simulation game in which you build a fortress with your dwarves and live there, attracting immigrants and caravans and even goblin sieges. It really is hard to explain it's depth and complexity, you have to play it yourself.
Now heres the catch. The game uses Extended ASCII Graphics. that means everything in the game is made using these (link) symbols only. Although you can download tilesets (link) to change certain ones into sprites.
The game also has a ridiculously steep learning curve. I recommend looking up captainducks video tutorials on Youtube, they make it much easier.
It takes a bit to get into, but it really is an amazing game. Heres a link to the main site where you can download it Bay 12 games
Thoughts? Opinions? Agreement?
By the way, the graphics are meant to be ASCII, and I personally (although it was really hard to digest at first until I got used to them) feel more absorbed in things because you can imagine what they are actually doing.
