What are aura's for now?

Yeah, I figured this would have been asked before, so I swear I search-barred it, and still didn't find it. So...

*ahem* If our aura's aren't to indicate our voting disposition anymore, what are they for at all? Are they just for general personality indication?

Back when NG was new and fresh, your aura would be decided by your voting habits. Nowadays, you can select it, making it just a vanity item.

Because people would go around voting 0 on everything to get a dark aura, and that was bad.

People were probably complaining about how they liked blue but got stuck with green... Not sure.

But if you want to do it based on voting habits, it goes like this:

Light: Votes higher on submissions than other people; the nice guy.
Neutral: Pretty much average; middle man.
Dark: Harder on submissions; TOUGH GUY.
Evil: REALLY hard on submissions, only accepts the best of the best.
Fab: Pink :D.
