Week 6 Schedule:

Houston at Cincinnati -
Bengals. I hate Ochocinco though.
Detroit at Green Bay -

Green Bay. I don't know what to say about Detroit really...

Baltimore at Minnesota -

Tough game but I'll go with the Vikings.

NY Giants at New Orleans -

Another tough choice. Giants by 3 or something close to that.

Cleveland at Pittsburgh -

Self explanitory.

Carolina at Tampa Bay -

Since I don't care about these teams at all. Carolina because their jerseys are cool.

Kansas City at Washington -

Washington. KC hasn't done shit this season. Not like Washington has either, but...

St. Louis at Jacksonville -

Jacksonville. I don't know. Depends on if Rush Limbaugh buys them and turns them into gods.

Arizona at Seattle -

Arizona. With Fitzgerald over there I have good feelings.

Philadelphia at Oakland -

Philly. Oakland has one of the worst coaches I've ever seen.

Tennessee at New England -

New England. Winless Tennessee will remain winless while the refs form a protective shield around Brady's apparently perfect face.

Buffalo at NY Jets -

New York. Mark Sanchez is a great rookie and Buffalo is Buffalo shit.

Chicago at Atlanta -

As much as I hate to say it, Chicago. The Cutler fiasco made me hate the guy but hey, Orton's doin pretty good too, huh?

Denver at San Diego -

My team has to win this. 3.5 game lead if they win? Let's trounce em' Broncs!

Not really. Be explicit in your picks because I can't read minds just yet.

Wk 6 Picks:
Bengals
Packers
Ravens
Saints
Steelers
Panthers
Chiefs
Jags
Cards
Eagles
Pats
Jets
Falcons
Broncos

Oh yeah, my coach's poll: Zorn, Cable, and Jaron.

Zorn's seat is on fire at the moment and I don't think we'll see him after the Redskins' bye week (wk 8).

He's actually getting MVP votes.. Anyone else think the Broncos quick start is a fluke?

The win against Cincinnati was a fluke, straight up. Two of their wins also came against the Raiders and Browns, which I mean... COME ON. I also think it's safe to say that beating the Cowboys this season is nothing to brag about either. Then last week their defense made up for a lot and stole them a game that for the most part they didn't deserve to win.

So yeah, I think lady luck has played a big part in their season so far, but that being said 5-0 is 5-0 and I don't think you can discount them just because their wins haven't been pretty. Though I wouldn't go crowning them the team to beat just yet.

Week 6 Schedule:

I'd like to mention I think these picks are some of the hardest so far.

Houston at Cincinnati -

Houston is better than their record, but you got to ride a hot Cincinnati team.

Bengals

Detroit at Green Bay -

Detroit is also better than their record..

Green Bay

Baltimore at Minnesota -

Ouch, I really don't know.

Minnesota

NY Giants at New Orleans -

Again, a toughy..

New Orleans

Cleveland at Pittsburgh -

Pittsburgh

Carolina at Tampa Bay -

Carolina

Kansas City at Washington -

Is this even an upset?

Kansas City

St. Louis at Jacksonville -

Jacksonville

Arizona at Seattle -

I'm going to go with the revamped team here..

Seattle

Philadelphia at Oakland -

Philly

Tennessee at New England -

Patriots

Buffalo at NY Jets -

Jets

Chicago at Atlanta -

Bears are a good team, but..

Atlanta

That was when they were new in the league, and went 0-23 over their first 2 seasons. They won about 10 games into their second season.

They went to the playoffs ONE time while in that uniform if I'm not mistaken. I can't be bothered to google it to be sure, but it sounds right. One year when Steve Young was starting to get good.

They thought Steve Young's a bust when the problem's actually themselves, Lee Roy Selmon was the only good player they had that time. Doug Williams did okay but what he could've done for other team had he been somewhere else earlier is something we'll never know, granted he did helped the Redskins win in 1987.

Not much, maybe another year or 2. Running Backs have one of the youngest retiring ages of any position. Usually around 30 or so you become the 3rd down back or take limited carries.

As a running back, you get beat up just about every down. Whether blocking or running, you're almost always in the play, and it takes it's toll.

Here is my obligatory college football post for this week:

Key Games:
20 Oklahoma vs 3 Texas
11 Iowa at Wisconsin
Arkansas at 1 Florida
6 USC at 25 Notre Dame
4 VTech at 19 Georgia Tech
22 South Carolina at 2 Alabama

--

Yep, it's that time of year again, rivalry week. If you haven't been watching college football, now is a good time to start. The two big games this week is the Red River Rivalry game between OU and Texas and the game between power houses USC and Notre Dame. To say these games are big is an understatement.

While the winner of the USC/ND match is really a more important game for Notre Dame than for USC, this is a must win for both teams. This is the only game that ND has verses a ranked opponent and they have to win in order to even be in the BSC bowl conversation and to keep Charlie Weis's job. USC has to keep winning to compensate for their early loss to Washington and to keep pace with the Pac-10 leader Oregon.

The winner of the Red River Rivalry will undoubtedly will win the Big 12 South and is almost a shoe in for any BCS bowl Big 12 tie-ins. Trust me, there is nothing but hatred between these two teams and their fans. Everywhere you go in the city of Dallas you are always on notice on which team you support and each bar or hangout is a battlefield; sometimes quite literally. There is an air of tension all over the city before the game and after, there is a chant of victory for the winners and a long 3 1/2 hour drive home for the losers.

Go OU!

Yeah, but he also tore a labrum in his hip IIRC (forget if it was mid-season with the Royals or mid-season with the Raiders, but that's neither here nor there) which did him in from both sports. Can't get rotation on your swing with a bad hip (ask a-rod or chase utley or alex gordon) and can't keep up good speed, especially breakaway speed, with a bad hip in football.

had he stuck with baseball and not been unfortunate up to fuck up his hip, i'd have given him another 5-10 years of regular major league action. football, under the same circumstances regarding not fucking up his hip, i'd give him 3-5 more years as a productive back before fading out. it wasn't that he suddenly hit that proverbial RB cornerstone and just fell off the charts; injuries robbed him of his skills.

Houston at Cincinnati - Cedric Benson should run all over Houston. So I'll give them the edge.

Detroit at Green Bay - Green Bay is well rested and doesn't really have a test playing Detroit.

Baltimore at Minnesota - Game of the week right here. They are both similar teams, but the Vikings have Favre magic flowing through them. So I pick them.

NY Giants at New Orleans - Another good game this week. I'm going to have to go with New Orleans just because their offense is so good and the Giant's defense is banged up at the moment.

Cleveland at Pittsburgh - Well Cleveland's offense is in disarray and they find themselves in a pickle against the reigning Super Bowl champs who are fighting for a playoff spot.

Carolina at Tampa Bay - Carolina may turn the ball over ALOT!!!!, but Tampa's secondary still stinks.

Kansas City at Washington - This one is a toss up in my opinion. I mean other than last week Kansas City's offense wasn't too good, but Washington has been an enigma with it's soft schedule and Jason Campbell and Clinton Portis have been both up and down, but I still have them winning this one.

St. Louis at Jacksonville - Maurice Jones Drew is going to bounce back this week and Mike Sims-Walker is now back in the line up and the Rams have umm....Kyle Bowler?

Arizona at Seattle - Arizona looked pretty goo last week and Seattle is well pretty bad. Pretty easy pick.

Philadelphia at Oakland - With Donovan back and throwing for a gazillion yards and the fact that they are playing the lowly Raiders. Nothing much to say about this one folks except Eagles win.

Tennessee at New England - Tennessee has looked terrible this season with the exception of Chris Johnson (guess they shouldn't have let Albert Haynesworth leave this year) and Tom Brady seems to be about 80%.

Buffalo at NY Jets - Buffalo couldn't do shit against the Brown's defense what makes you think they can do something against the blitz happy Jets?

Chicago at Atlanta - Jay Cutler has played well during the past few week, but I expect the Falcons to win this one.

Denver at San Diego - Denver has now proven that they can play defense now with L.T. still banged up expect Denver's secondary to get a pick or two.

So yeah, I've decided to get back to posting about American Football here on the NG BBS, and this be the place to do such. I recall there used to be an American Football Crew as I remember posting there, but I guess the thread got deleted as I see no record of my posts in that thread in my post history. Oh well.

Anywho, some of you know me from the MLB thread in the C+C, some might remember from way back when I posted regularly in the General/Wi+Ht Forums, and some don't have a fucking clue who I am, and to you I say "ahoy."

I'm liking the fact that you guys also talk College Football, and I'll throw in my 2 cents whenever I can (like will Weis ever beat USC?! I'm guessing no), but for the most part I'll stick with the Pro Game.

I'm also liking the fact that you guys do pick-'ems every week, and kudos for keeping track. I'll join in with that trend, and if you want to throw me in with the late-comers that's fine, but you might as well just save the effort and I'll keep track of it myself. I mean I missed the first 1/3 of the season and it's somewhat easier now to guess as most of the good and bad teams have been weeded out.

My week 6 picks:
Cincinnati over Houston; Green Bay over Detroit; Jacksonville over St. Louis;
Minnesota over Baltimore; New Orleans over N.Y. Giants; Pittsburgh over Cleveland
Carolina over Tampa Bay; Washington over Kansas City; Philly over Oakland
Seattle over Arizona; New England over Tennessee; N.Y. Jets over Buffalo
Chicago over Atlanta; and San Diego over Denver

I might be agreeing with most of the bookies in terms of picking favorites this week, aside from the Chicago/Atlanta game, but they think that a lot of these games could be close giving 8 of the 14 match-ups spreads of 6.5 or less. Frankly, I do too. Giants @ Saints is one I think would be close, with the Saints having a good home-field advantage and an underrated defense. In Carolina @ T.B. and K.C. @ Washington they could both be games of "who will screw up less?," so they could be close. Also the Arizona/Seattle, Chicago/Atlanta and Denver/S.D. games all have lines of around 3 or 3.5, so even though I could be picking the "favorite" there, it could very well be a close game that doesn't end in my favor.

Good luck this week all.
