Well our computer starting freaking the fuck out yesterday. It got infected with a massive virus that Totally FUBAR'd the computer. We didn't have proper virus protection either, so my Dad had to wipe the hard drive today.
I lost Over 6 gigabytes (possibly more) of music, pictures and other shit,Not to mention all of my good games. At least i still have my NG profile.
What do you guys make of it?
Here comes "Cool story bro" lol

You should have dumped all that shit on a flash drive or CD. I had the same problem. I lost 70 gigs of stuff though, so consider yourself lucky

Spend about $50 on a 500GB or larger external hard drive and back up your stuff regularly.

Why would you need their permission? Just say you use it to put all your school work on or some crap.

Luckily, the only media I keep is music, and games. I could recover all that lost data pretty quickly. Though try purchasing a flash drive with the capacity to support the media that you keep. And back it up regularly. I don't, because mine is pretty empty.
I AM SO LONELY.

I still have my nearly 1000 songs on my iPod. I'm afraid if i reinstall iTunes and sync, it will delete everything. The music and the 100's of pictures i used for the BBS are the only things I'm worried about.

That sucks. I just do system restore until the computer restores another virus by accident. That happened only a month ago lol. The virus deleted a system 32 DLL file.

Multiple hard drives for the win.
Virus's almost exclusively install themselves onto the operating system.
So you put your OS on one HD, and all your music and shit on the other.
Then, you only have to wipe the one HD, and you're good to go. Lo and behold, you still have your music!

OMG XP SUX, wtf is your problem? You want a new PC simply because the OS seems outdated to you?
Large corporations and businesses almost are still using windows XP almost exclusively.
Besides, you don't need a new PC simply to change the OS.
You don't know much yourself about PC's do you?

You can't restore a system 32 DLL file, so I had to re-install Windows XP all together. But most drivers weren't installed so I was forced to bring it in to a guy to fix it.

My pictures, music, papers for school and other important files I have backed up on a 4 gig flash drive. So that sucks for you. If a virus corrupts my files (unlikely) or my house burns down. I will be able to transfer my files onto a new computer/hard drive. I have a good anti virus program, not that Windows Norton shit.

I guess not, but I know a whole lot more then my parents do, that's for sure. I mean a LOT more.
I know that windows XP is really good and all, but some people say Vista is The best, but Most say that Vista is utter shit. I'm stuck between opinions.

I've heard that Vista is shit because of crashes and incompatibility. And how it completely gobbles down your system's resources. Although I've never used it, that's what I've heard. Just stick with XP.

I have 1.7GB of music and porn.
x2 1TB externals ftw.
Anyway, ask your parents to buy you a 2TB those are pretty cheap these days. Remember, you need it because your school is doing school projects creating videos and stuff.

That sucks. It's happened to me three times though. My computer just froze and shutdown and I lost everything. The second time my parents bought a 8 GB flash drive to store some stuff but my douchebag brother used it all up so I had to redownload everything. It's fucking up a lot recently too.
also, wipe, teehee
