Also, for those wondering where you could go that fast in a car, there are some motorways in Europe that don't have speed limits.

I'll make you a sig. Pm me or visit this thread.

This is great, providing you trying to save money on gas, rather than save the planet.

This car is a combination of a regular car powered by fossil fuels and the electric car. By using electricity to also propel the car, the amount of gasoline used has been significantly reduced.

However, you will not be any more "green" by driving this car, in fact you may be less so.

Think about where that electricity came from, most of the means that the US gets its electricity is from coal or from burning some type of material. In fact, the only truly "clean" form of energy production that is relatively mainstream is nuclear.

Seeing as nuclear only accounts for about 17% of the total electricity in the USA the odds are good that the electricity used to power your "environmentally friendly" car, is a lot more harmful to the environment than your average purely fossil fuel based car.

Is it more fuel efficient? Yes.

Is it any better for the environment? No.

Yeah, I know, I was just trying to come up with some kind of scary disaster coming up on you from behind. If you're on a limited access highway you have no choice but to drive one direction, so if there was a tornado you could either stop and let it pass infront of you, or if it's coming at you from behind, you have little choice but to try and out run it until you can find an exit so you can travel in a safer direction. Either way, you wouldn't want to be in a car that has a top speed of 55MPH, etc. :)

Perfect example for ya, evil T-1000 chasing you in a tanker full of liquid nitrogen. Definatly could've done with a truck that could go faster than 55mph.

According to every tornado safety thing I've ever heard, you're much, much better off abandoning your vehicle and lying down in a ditch. Even with a faster car, trying to outrun it usually ends up with people in a twisted heap of metal that used to be a car.

And no your not alone. I've always wondered why petrolheads are so obsessed about top speed in a car they'd buy when they can't legally go full whack.

Unless they go to Germany and rev it up on the Autobahn.

Typically cars with more power (that can go into the 180's-200's) are used and have that much power simply because it makes the handling easier. For instance if I was driving a Ford Pinto i'd have to damn-near floor it in order to stay at a safe speed on the freeway, and that's a lot of work for the car. Whereas if I drove a Dodge Charger it would take very little effort for me and the car to keep up on the freeway.

Interested? Probably not. It's okay, I wouldn't be either. Just PM me

Most cars do have devices that limit their top speed to something around 110-120MPH, even though the speedometer may go up to 165mph or whatever.

I had a mustang GT in high school and that's how it was. It went to either 150 or 165 but it'd cut out when I hit around 115.

My dad had done something to modify it where it didn't cut out anymore, but that was after I gave it back to them and moved out.

If you have a car that can go 200 MPH then you could probably get away with racing around at 1 - 4 AM. Cops wouldn't deploy spike strips at that speed, nor could they catch up to you. And helicopters would have trouble spotting you in the dark.

That makes it useful.

Then there's the whole escape tornado / car-driven-by-angry-man-with-gun thing. There's nothing like some enraged jackass in an SUV trying to run you off the road to make you wish you could do 200.

Still needs gas.

I introduce the challenger: Tesla Model S. Sports seven seats, two trunks, uses no gasoline, 0 to 60 MPH in less than six seconds; and if you're going to drive 230 miles in one go, you'll be recharging at a hotel anyway.

Chevy Volt? Relatively cheaper, out one year sooner, and has brand appeal - bailed-out, government owned brand appeal. Whereas Tesla Motors is expanding its enterprise in a bad economy. Think about that.

It's because when your in the car going bast 230 MPH, it doesn't matter who you are or where you came from in those 6 seconds, you're free.

And besides, if your power source is clean - say, solar cells on the roof of your garage - then you're not burning any extra coal. Electricity doesn't come from magic by any stretch, but it doesn't have to leave a carbon footprint either.

And again, you can avoid the gas altogether if you forgo the Volt and go with the Tesla Model S. Help me out here, people; I'm trying to lend support to a smaller business, that didn't go begging to Congress for bailout money! Do more for the economy and the planet! CLICK THE F***ING LINK!
