Who really knows? Apparently, the owners of the site have been charged one year in prison, but a company GGC is willing to pay 8 billion USD for the site or so. The owners said they'll take that money to make an offshore server that expresses freedom of speech, freedom of information, and the use of the internet.

I'll miss you Pirate Bay. Time to find a new torrent site....

Holy shit, 8 Billion? Some would think that they would spend more than 15+ years for exploiting pay-for products, movies, games, etc... Well, at least I've mananged to get a few MP3s and Frogger 3D for the PC.

A lot of things on the site didn't have viruses when a freind of mine downloaded them. He checked with a security scanner.

you schmuck, the site itself isn't illegal! its the few people that upload illegal stuff, torrents on their own are not illegal, the technology is legal, its been used for completely legal purposes... however there's always people that will turn every piece or technology into something illegal, for example:
P2P software, it wasn't made to be illegal, or even going back to the older days, FTPs...
its up to the person how he/she/it utilizes that technology...
plus, its only illegal because record companies are losing money and they have invested a lot of money on lobbyists... same for movie companies...

whats the deal with all hope gone if tpb goes down? there is still mininova, isohunt and countless other sites that have a good collection. Although its true, i use tpb and demonoid

TPB goes down a lot. I tried going on it a week or two ago, but it was down. I wouldn't worry to much since it always somehow comes back.
