It really depends on what you're looking to watch. Different genres present different animes, all with varying degrees of quality in terms of even more varying preferences.

I can't stand those never-ending, on-going shows, whether they're anime or live-action or any other medium. With very few exceptions, they only fucking end when the series gets canceled, and then the ending necessarily sucks because they didn't have a chance to tie up any of the loose ends.

Regardless of length, a series is only good if the ending is planned. Battlestar Galactica went on for several seasons, but at least they gave it an ending instead of dragging it out until no one cared. Whether or not you liked the last episode, it was better than floating around in space forever and ending the series with a cliffhanger leading up to a canceled season.

To be fair I watched the series when I was around 10. I remember it to be quite good.

Well, pardon me for stating an honest opinion. I just really like Yu Yu Hakusho. It's a very enjoyable show, after all. Much better than a show about some stupid blonde kid in an orange jumpsuit claiming to be a ninja.

Oh, almost forgot! Another one that many forget, but I honestly love to death, is "The Big O". Its film noir setting and compelling story are just astonishing, and I loved the series all the way through.

These come in any order u want them in bc i can't really pick a place for them.
-Rouroni Kenshin- no1 mentioned this show also known as "X" (bad@$$ show)
-Trigun- another not mentioned but i liked his history (also reminded me of "gohan")
-Cowboy Bebop- funny show that had it's sad moments
-Inuyasha- idk i just liked the fact that he was half human half demon (i also liked the red sheets he wore, they looked comfortable)
-Naruto- yea i know a bunch of u don't like it...i was disappointed that naruto got annoying with his "believe it!" (this wouldn't be on the very top but i like it.
-Bleach- i saw a couple of episodes and it looks like good material (except the fact that they could float in the middle of the air...)
-Dragonball series- i grew up with this and sure there instant muscles didn;t make sense but the show kinda makes wish u had those powers (arg)
-Death note- saw a few episodes and looks good
-Yu-yu hakushaha just kidding. i did see this show a few times but it just didnt get my interest. (sorry)
-Gundam wing- i can't remember wut version but i think it was the original one (gundam dx kind lost its credibility)
-ah i cant think of the last one-

i noticed no1 has also mentioned "card captors" "battle vixens" "full metal alchemist" "digimon" "pokemon" "yugioh" "avatar" ect. i know theres fans out there.

Please stop. everyone. I an get that popularity of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL and Gurren Lagann... But best anime ever? none of them are even worth being called best mecha anime ever. By the way, for all EVA fans: Space Runaway Ideon.

The real list should look close to this

1. Hokuto no Ken: Think Mad Max, where the protagonist is an unstoppable kill machine, and basically Jesus.

2. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: The Second gundam series, and the one that is still considered the most influential in terms of groundbreaking mech designs and beautiful, yet depressing storylines.

3. Cowboy Bebop: Too fucking cool for words, one of the most impressive English casts in anime history.

4. Black Lagoon: Basically Cowboy Bebop, set in the 21st century. Oh, and one of the best dubs I've heard. Maryke Hendriske should be in every anime.

5. Kaiji: Fuck you idiots who think Death Note and Code Geass were "psychological" this my friends, is a REAL psychological show.

yah you can get it on DVD somewhere... i saw it once. i was like I GOTTA FUCKIN BUY IT but at the time i was cash-less and i havent seen a copy since. instead now i just watch it on youtube.

I wish they would make an Akira anime series. Like the whole 15 books like 150 episodes or something.
