I got a question for you.
If I find some wifi network thats not secured by a password, is it legal to connect it and use it as the Internet gateway?
note: I don't know owner of the network and have no idea is he stupid enough to forget about password protection or is he hosting it for public.

Well it is the owner's fault for not protecting his wifi with a password, so yes, it is legal.
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

I ask if it's legal not if it's suitable to my interests. It really bangs my head these days when I got my new laptop.

I'm guessing it's illegal, since they guy you're stealing it from, is paying for it, and you, obviously, are not...

Well, cutting someones cable line and splitting it off to your house is illegal; so getting on someones WiFi so you can have free internet probably is too. Even though it's pretty much their own fault for leaving it un-protected.
If they have file sharing on and you can access their shared files, they fail at networking. If they have printers shared, they fail even harder, send something to their printer for the lulz.
I'm a regular thread killer. If you see my post at the bottom of a page, chances are there are no more posts below it.

It is not legal at all unless you get permission. Just go ask the guy most people are cool about it. I left my wifi network insecure because you can use that to provide reasonable doubt if you are ever caught doing something illegal online.

It is illegal, but only if you get caught doing it, but hey it could be worse, you could crack somebody WEP and then connect to it.

Change your mac address then do that it makes you so paranoid even though it would be hard to get caught because you changed your mac.
