Yea, the consoles that I owned when they were current gen went PS1 -> PS2 -> Xbox 360. The reason for switching from Sony to Microsoft was simply the price. PS3 was far more expensive than the 360 was back then and considering how similar they were, I wasn't willing to pay so much more for a PS3. Xbox 360 was also the popular console amongst my friends and although it took a year or two before I got Xbox Live, the idea was that I'd be able to play with them online.

I did own a PS3 as well for a while but preferred the Xbox and eventually the PS3 was sold.

Just a side note here, I think I have an eBay problem. Every time I have a little bit of spare money lying around I'm straight on eBay looking for cheap games. I saw an auction for the DS version of Chrono Trigger ending at £10 and it's a game I've been wanting to play for ages. Typically it has a by it now price of £20 so I bid and won it for £10.50 I sort of regret it now but ah well it's a classic that I've been meaning to play for ages.

It's a damn shame a lot of people I can think on top of my head don't even post here anymore. Things do feel really quiet as a result.

I really wish that this place was a little more lively though.

Same thing can be said for every other forum barring General.

That right there is probably the biggest flaw of the original GTA games. You really can't see far enough in-front of you for high speed driving to work. I do constantly find myself bumping into things in the original GTA games and it is annoying but I seem to adjust to it after a while.

I suppose if you were exposed to this back in the day, the games would be grand but for me, I much prefer how they settled with III and Vice City. I can't say San Andreas since I have yet to play it but maybe I could fire it up on Steam providing I have no problems on my laptop when playing it.

i think was the amount of games there were that not everybody knew about so could swap with friends and then swap with them and i love the developers tech was not as great and had to make there own engines so not as many similar games were out making it great to just go to gamestop buy trade get new game play all night and get a new one

i know what you guys mean i feel as a whole that the forums are kinda empty and not much goes on these forums and i do agree that im sick of best worst most fun and that kind of stuff

i think ill be on here often so that i can see whats going on around here and hopefully make it more alive

That's because there's pretty much nothing out at the moment, the release schedule is barren until september.
It'll pick up, there's always lapses in the VG forum.

Bought my brother's DS Lite for $50, so I need some game suggestions. This is what I plan to get so far:

Pokemon White
Pokemon HeartGold
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Chinatown Wars
Dragon Quest IX? (Haven't played the series before)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (+more if I like this one)
The World Ends With You
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

And all I have is Super Scribblenauts.

Chrono Trigger. I got my brother's DS last week I think and I've been meaning to get some games for it. Chrono Trigger was at the top of the list. Often listed in top 10 games of all time, it seemed worth getting.

How well have they aged for someone who's never played them? For $3.79 I guess I can't go wrong anyway.

I wouldn't recommend Chinatown Wars (or Zelda to be honest) but that's just me.

Anyway, you need Ace Attorney (The original and Trials & Tribulations specifically, Apollo Justice is the weakest and Justice for All isn't far behind), 999, Ghost Trick, Chrono Trigger, Knights in the Nightmare and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

It's hard to say becuase I'm fairly biased towards the series. In my opinion, I think they hold up pretty well, especially the last two games you get in the pack. The first three have an odd jumping mechanic that takes a few tries to get used to, but it works pretty well once you get a hang of the controls. The games are a bit different from your standard platformer fair where the game is more exploring levels and finding keys to unlock doors to progress. Think Doom but as a platformer

Oh yeah, I watched your video. Forgot what games you got though.

I'm not so sure about Chinatown Wars, I think I might just skip it. Zelda on the other hand... I want to at least try Phantom Hourglass. If it sucks I'll buy Minish Cap and A Link to the Past for GBA, which I've already played through. Ace Attorney didn't look very fun to me, but maybe I should look into it more. Castlevania is one of the games I've been thinking about, but I'm not so sure I want to get it. Maybe I'll put it on my list, but I'll make it a lower priority. I've never played Chrono Trigger and it's supposed to be on of the greatest games of all time. I guess I owe it to myself to try it, but from the gameplay I've seen, it doesn't look too appealing. I haven't heard of 999, Ghost Trick, or Knights in the Nightmare so I guess I have some videos to watch. Thanks, both of you.

Not really sure there's anything I got that's worth adding to your list. Maybe the New Super Mario Bros?

As for Chrono Trigger not looking appealing, I can see why people might say that. I mean it was only within the last year or so that I actually started to like JRPGs. Prior to that it was one of my least favourite genres, but now I can't get enough of them. Chrono Trigger seems to not only be considered one of the best JRPGs but also one of the best video games, so I really want to give it a shot. If you're not really into JRPGs though, I can't imagine it would be for you.

I'm still on the hunt for some good DS games though. I was looking for old school ports/remakes of RPGs on the system but I've not put much time into looking at what the DS all has to offer as of yet.

Forgot to mention Contra 4, Metroid Prime Hunters, Worms: Open Warfare, Dementium II (and maybe Moon if you liked this and want more), Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Retro Game Challenge and maybe Hotel Dusk. Also Plants Vs. Zombies if you don't already have it.

If you want a new Zelda style game I recommend Okamiden, much better than the DS Zelda games imo. You could try Radiant Historia or Devil Survivor if you're looking for JRPGs. Lastly, Ace Attorney is much more fun than it sounds.

I don't really like the newer Zelda games, but Okamiden I've heard is great.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I guess there's a lot more to the DS than I thought. I'll have to start looking up some gameplay of all these games.

So I'm at the final boss in Breath of Fire IV and holy shit it's hard. Well, there's two options. A evil option which makes beating the game a cake walk or the proper, good ending which is insanely hard.

It saddens me to think that I've invested about 25 hours in this game and I'll probably never beat this final boss. The battle is infinitely harder than any previous boss battle, but on top of that there's a much harder one straight after defeating this one and none of your party members get their stars replenished.

I honestly don't know how this is actually meant to be achievable. Really pisses me off that I've spent so long playing this only to be unable to beat it. Other than this stupidly hard ending though, it has been a fantastic game.

At least it will be a tough and memorable boss unlike many of the games I've been playing recently with there horribly underpowered bosses (first two Castlevania game references). I would much rather choose the good ending.

Also since I've found most of my favourite PS2 games are being re-released in HD packages or special editions and my PS3 has PSOne backwards compatibility anyway I'm thinking of selling my Playstation 2. Most of the suggestions you guys put in (thanks for those by the way) were available to be downloaded on the Playstation Network, or I could just get it to use the PS3's backwards compatibility anyway. The games I'm planning on getting are the first three Crash Bandicoot's, Tomb Raider 1-3, and possibly Breath Of Fire IV. I figure if I can manage to sell my Gamecube for $50 then I could easily sell the Playstation 2 for somewhere in the range of $80-110.

But in current news I'm cruising my way through the first Legend Of Zelda, it gets easier every time but this time I'm getting a blast out of pretending Link and the pedop- I mean Old Man are the only human survivors after Link was abandoned in the Old Man's bomb shelter during a nuclear fallout (I know that plot lines getting old.) but when Link grows up adapting to a future without technology where we rely on magic and swords he finds that the Princess survived and lives in castle ruins until she's abducted by Ganon, a hideous pig mutated from the nuclear toxic and must get the tri-force to save her. Yes, I get THIS bored sometimes.

If it makes an old game seem fresh and more appealing, more power to ya. Thats some detailed storyline right there though, ha. I just like to get myself into the main concept of the game, whether its futuristic (Mass Effect), or apocolpytic (Fallout), I just like to get myself into those shoes.

I always end up getting carried away and adapting some stupid habits to my reality afterwards. But hey.

I guess you have a point. Also, Jackho gave me a good suggestion. He said that I should just grind a couple levels each day and play another game in-between. That way I wont get bored senseless by grinding for what would no doubt feel like hours on end.

I figure if I can manage to sell my Gamecube for $50 then I could easily sell the Playstation 2 for somewhere in the range of $80-110.

I'm not sure how different things are in the US, but I'm pretty sure that over here a GameCube would sell for more than a PS2. PS2 was by far the more common console so now a GameCube would be the more sought after system. Only thing that sucks about the GameCube is that the good games sell for more than a good PS2 game, so it's an expensive system to collect for. It's like that with Nintendo systems in general over here.

Think I'll give the original Max Payne a shot. Should be able to beat it in two days I reckon. It's either that or Devil May Cry but I'm more in a gritty shooter kinda mood right now.

Yes, when my Mom bought me MadWorld for the Wii I played it for about a week straight nearly completing the game in that time but after that I was so bored and frustrated with it I didn't pick it up until nearly a year later. I'd recommend what Jackho said, try some long several hour spans of gaming on it while in between try something new to freshen your mind and keep you from being to bothersome to play the game.

I just figure the PS2 will go for more because there still in retail here and because at GameStop you can purchase some great GameCube games like Metroid Prime, Luigi's Mansion and F-Zero GX for LITERALLY under $5. Yes, for once GameStop is not only being reasonable, but there completely bargaining.

I played MP2: The Fall of Max Payne once on the Xbox and it seemed like a fun game but my time with it was however very short lived.

If you're getting a game for around 8 - 10 dollars in total, its probably worthwhile. Even if it is last gen.

Was playing Max Payne yesterday. Sadly my disc was too scratched or something and it wouldn't play chapter 2. Decent enough game though although the frame rate gets pretty terrible when there's more than three enemies shooting at you.

ys the ark of napishtim/ 15.97

More than I paid for it but I've put a little time into it so far. Really unforgiving game. You'll probably die a lot at the start and not really have anything explained to you. Having said that, it is quite good. If the first boss battle is anything to go by, it has that really old school feel of having to memorise their move pattern.

shadow of colossus/ 10.00
ico/ 15.00

Never played these but I've been waiting until I can get them at a good price. They're meant to be fantastic games, although a totally different style of gameplay than I'm used to.

I already burned through the other three MGS games as well as Peace Walker so it'll be time to go through this game again. In the meantime, I was going through the Tomb Raider trilogy on PS3. Apart from MGS4, I really should try and focus on Ico/Shadow of the Colossus. Anything else with gaming, I may be tempted to play Oddworld again thanks to playing a bit of it at my friend's house yesterday. He found my knowledge on where all the secrets were held to be unreal.

Hey dudes, I kind of frequent the Video Game Forum, so I thought I might pop in and join you.

If I am not mistaken, you're talking about the Oddworld series, right? I've played only one game from them - Abe's Oddysee. Back then, when I had a PS One, it was kind of confusing and really odd, but I found it quiet enjoyable. Never managed to finish it though. And now I don't have any Sony consoles to replay it.

Any of you guys play DOTA 2?
